Shrinking crisp packets
Does anyone know if there are still crisp packets that you can shrink like shrink plastic? I know you used to be able to do chipsticks and frazzles but wondered if there were anymore that anyone had used.
TIA

I remember doing this as a child, and was amazed that my Dad could do magic !! the wonder of children eh.
would love to know what other packets of crisps work. I guess they have changed the packaging now. Can anyone remember was it a really hot oven.
Do you think other wrappers would work like say mars bars, etc. I feel a scrap page coming along.

We used to do this at school and attach pins on the back to make badges! i think the packets are made of a different plastic now.

I remember doing these to. i think we used to do the over a gas ring. Also used to melt yogurt pots with hot water. I did get a very interesting texture though with a large pack that had held multipacks of crisps in & a heat Gun, went all bobbley, it also shrunk a abit, but was a fab texture.

I think this was before they put 'foil' in them to keep the contents fresh. I saw something recently about this, and it was said that there were a couple of cheap brands that you could still shrink, but not any of the 'usual' brands - maybe something like monstermunch or the really cheap ones you get for kids in corner shops IYKWIM.
Never tried it myself (DM not into crafting with us kids LOL!)

Thanks ladies! I feel a crisp buying binge coming on- purely for research purposes of course! I shall report back as to how I got on!

googled it. says patato heads work so do kp nut bags. People make triangle things out of crisp packets, and there are sellers on Ebay of old empty packets, so I now guess if I keep all my recycling rubbish from the bins I could just flog it on Ebay - do people collect anything, and I thought we were doing it for crafty reasons!

I have done this using Smiths crisp bags and my heat gun.

So are you saying the crisp packets that have the foil in them (ie Skips/wotsits/quavers - my son's fav's!!!!) will not shrink??
-
Dedicated Scrapper
The foil will stop them shrinking, they have to be just made of plastic.

Space invaders always used to be good - they had quite bright colours and a cool picture with the alien that came out well. Think they're still ok to use too.
