There's a video showing how to change the blade with the coloured caps here Petrina, although your blade may be old it's still sharp so be careful when doing this

I received my new Cameo today and went ahead and cut textured cardstock first up. The Program recommended 5 so I tried that and the blade started cutting right through the plastic carrier sheet! Partly my fault as I pressed load media instead of load cutting mat. Luckily it only cut a 3 inch line before the sticky starts.
Advisable to do a test cut first!

I have just followed the Youtube video on how to clean the blade and it did work - there was one large piece of card and a small circle that had been stuck there.

Unfortunately I had already ordered a new blade before I saw this thread (and its not the fabric blade either). At least I can keep it as a spare - that will teach me not to pop on here

Oh no Kerrie. At least your mat wasn't too badly damaged. I'm guessing you won't be doing that one again, lol.

Glad it worked for you, you'll know next time.

I think Cameo are really just not checking things.

My ratchet bladed started to rip the card after owning it for 4 weeks, I removed the top and cleaned out all the dust replaced said top and now it cuts fine again.

Cannot comment on Cameo blades but would like to point out that I have just made quite a considerable comment reference blades in general and guess what when I came to post it I was told I did not have the authority and to refresh my page first, for those of you who don't know what happens next when told to do this, you loose your comment and have to start again, which of course, I haven't the time to do. So suffice to say I get my blades from a different source, they are good, they are sharp, they last, they are much cheaper than Graphtec, they have their own spindle it is a website not e-bay and it is in Britain.

How does one get a replacement blade:
Buy the blade in the holder as one unit about $15.00
or can I buy the blades separately at a lower cost and re-use the holder?

Sorry if this has been answered as I have read all the previous posts.

If it's a ratchet blade u can't u need to buy the whole thing.

It's just another way of pumping us for money.

If it's the old type blade with the coloured caps, yes you can buy replacement blades.

and be thankful u live in the US as the unit costs £15 here which is about $22.50

I may be wrong but I'm sure someone posted on here a utube video show someone replacing the spindle in the ratchet blade. As I say I could be wrong, maybe someone can confirm or deny this please?

Yes, the video shows how to replace the rachet blade for the Craft Robo. About $7.00 per blade.
I have not seen a video that tells how to get the old blade out of the Cameo housing and how to put a new one in. Probably the same idea, except the blade and housing are sold as one in the Cameo.

I am looking for information how to change or replace the blade in the Cameo, as everyone will have to sooner or later. The blade for the Cameo comes encased in a plastic housing and I think you have to buy the housing and blade each time you need a new blade. $15.00

    The blade difference:
    Craft Robo:
Rachet can be replaced, just pull the old one out and put the new one in the housing.
Add your different colored caps: yellow, red, blue.

    Cameo:
Blade is in housing that has a dial on it from 1-9 or 0. The blade cannot be bought separately from Craftec..you have to buy the housing and blade as one.

I am sure someone will set me straight.

I don't recall seeing that video Anne, I wonder if the blades are the same as the ones for the coloured cap housing. I did see the one for undoing the ratchet blade and removing the "bits"

Doreen, you just gave me a thought:

Can we use the Craft Robo blade in housing with colored cap red, yellow or blue...use it in the Cameo? I wonder if the diameter is different or why it would not work.

    Doreen,
Thank you for finding out and thanks to Phil for setting me straight.

Cannot wait until my Cameo arrives.
What the heaviest cardstock gsms the Cameo will cut?
I have not pushed my Craft Robo more than 250gsms.
    Petrina
