Covering a 12 x 12 album
Hi
I am doing a memory book for a friend of my Dad's. I have a 12 x 12 album for it but don't like the cover. I was going to cover it with sticky back canvas or grungepaper but the 12 x 12 sheets don't cover the whole album. Has anyone covered a 12 x 12 album? I would be grateful for any hints or tips.
TIA

Album covering
I have covered a couple of albums with wallpaper. Gone to large DIY warehouse and taken a length of the sample rolls. Simples!!

have you thought about fablon?

Normal? No, I'm just me
I used large sheets of handmade paper to cover an album. I have some velvet fabric to cover some albums with too.

Fabric would possibly be the best option ... but then it depends what type of album it is x

I use fabric, it's a great way of using those bits that I've saved because they look like they'll come in useful!
I take the album apart (post-bound), lay each cover on the fabric and cut round leaving a generous allowance, and when I've trimmed the corners I use pva glue to stick it all on. You'll need a piece of paper to cover the inside - one of the inserts might do it but make sure you've left enough spare fabric.
The only tricky bit is getting the corners neat.
You can do the spine as well - doesn't matter about the holes because the glue will stop them from fraying.
I've never done it, but it would be really good to do some applique on the front before you stick the fabric down.

I've got some rather nice flocked Damask patterned Fablon which I intend using on an album. I will just trim that level with the edges (it's a 'naked' AC one) but I think fabric might work best if you need to cover the edges too, although I used to cover books with Fablon at school (didn't we all?)

Thanks for all the great suggestions ladies! I have a bit of time this afternoon so will dismantle the album a bit and see what looks feasible. I m aliing the idea of fablon..... in a Blue Peter type way

You'll have to show us, when you can say "Here is one I prepared earlier"!

Yep, I remember that well
I really must get on and make my albums. I have the posts ready, just need to cut the mountboard to size, cover and fix together.

LOL ! And, BTW, apologies for my earlier, appalling spelling!

I suspect it was a lapse in your typing rather than your spelling!

Let the good times roll.........
I made one where I was given an album and I made a fabric slip cover for it just making the pattern from the plastic cover on the album, basically just taking the plastic slip cover off cutting it up and drawing around it. I made it 'padded' by sewing together a doubled up layer of calico in the middle of two layers of patterned fabric. I've got one of my own where I glued the fabric on and the slip cover looked loads better.
