AHA!!
This time it worked! So the text has to be welded in Inkscape and then Path - Object to path....thank you once more....I can't remember if this is what I did last time or not....I really must put some more time in I think...
Hi Nige,
If you haven't already done it, download Silhouette Studio software its free and it will do what you want all in the same program. My personal opinion of the software is its one of the best and easiest program I have used in a long time. Its worth a try.

You don't need to do Object to Path if you are welding the letters, you simply overlap them apply Path >>> Union, you should now see they are welded as one object and they will have been put to a path automatically.
The way you have explained the problem it doesn't sound as if you welded the letters. If you aren't going to weld them, then use RoboMaster it's better than cutting a DXF from another program.
Yes, I simply forgot to weld the letters together in Inkscape
Now, I have downloaded the suggested silhouette software and yes, it does look very simple to use, the only problem I have found, is when I click 'Save as'
There is only one save option, and that is a silhouette only file??

Have a look at this BEFORE you use any of your Robo files
Thanks for the advice about using my robo files in silhouette, appreciated.
I find welding letters together in RM results in the centres of 'O's' and 'P's' etc end up missing, hence using Inkscape
Cheers

There's a "workaround" tutorial for welding with Robomaster without loosing the centre here but as Lucille says it may not work for everything. You could always cut from Inkscape instead
there's a tutorial explaining how here
Sometimes you can't weld letters in Inkscape because there is only fill and no outline( sometimes mine reverts to 'no outline' sometimes it doesn't - most aggravating) ; select your letters and check in the bottom left hand corner that you have an outline, if you have only 'fill' before welding go to the brush icon at the top of the page, select your letters and make sure fill is X and outline solid colour.
Also to cut the rings you could do : make a circle in Inkscape, select it CTRL D and hit the bracket sign above 9 three or four times this will give you the outside of the frame. Select all Path>Exclusion and make your frame , now all you have to do is copy and paste several times, move the frames together and Path>Union. The trick is to make the frame first so it welds as a solid figure and you don't loose the centre. Cut directly from Inkscape - it's so much quicker. http://s114.photobucket.com/albums/n...inInkscape.mp4
here's a link to a very amateur and fuzzy video( with heavy breating .. I was at the very beginning so bear with me!!) I did a while back to help a friend who was having trouble designing and cutting in Inkscape. It shows how to draw a frame, how to set up Robo so you can cut directly from Inkscape and a few other bits and bobs.
