    About ATC's

ATCs or Artist Trading Cards are becoming increasingly popular among the scrapbooking community. They are miniature works of art, tiny layouts or stamping projects, collages, whatever you want them to be. There are only two rules, they must measure 2 ½” x 3 ½” and should not be sold, only exchanged for other cards
Artists usually make a set of cards on a similar theme, they are called series. The artist records the name of the set on the back of each card, signs and dates it and allocates a number to show how many were made and what number each card is in the sequence, for example 1/6, 2/6 etc. Single unique cards are called originals and sets of identical cards are called editions.
ATC’s can be made from plain cardstock or by altering poker playing cards (standard playing cards are not the right size) or trading cards such as Pokemon, Yu Gi Oh and Magic. Any media can be used but they need to be sturdy enough to survive the mail and not too thick so that they can be stored easily.

hints & tips (please feel free to add more in this thread)

Glossy cards can be lightly sanded or primed with gesso (a white or black chalky artist's medium)

I use old pokemon cards or poker cards then back the finished card with plain cardstock

For collage layers I use artist's gel medium, it acts as an adhesive and a protection cover and dries quickly

There are rubber stamps available for the back of ATC's to fill in your details (links anybody please?)

Sarah, go to the Paper Artsy web site for gel medium or a good local art shop. Watch out, there are many varieties ie matte, gloss, impasto, garnet, etc Just buy the big pot at PA and you'll be fine

Would Mod Podge (gloss or matte) be a substitute for the gel medium? (Very few pennies left after Tim Holtz cleared out my Christmas funds!).

    Thanks

I don't know if it is a substitute for Gel medium as I've never used that, but I use Mod podge a lot - both matte and gloss, dries nice and quickly for impatient people like me when making collage type ATCs, and doubles up as the glue to stick the bits on and a nice coat over the top of the finished ATC if that is the look i want.

Thank you Karen... exactly what I was hoping to hear. I've got both Mod Podges, so I guess there's nothing to stop me ATCing 24/7 now! (Nothing other than talent and inspiration that is)
    Thanks again
