Ali it sounds like the PVA is soaking through the paper. I use double sided tape.

I put the paper on the desk facing down. Put the book on towards the right so I have the right margine at the top and right hand side. Put a bit of DS tape on & fold over the left paper onto teh front of the book. Turn it all over & repear with the bit of DS tape on the back & cover. This is just to hold teh paper in place while you cut the edges & fold & stick it inside.

Then its up to you if you fold over the triangle in each corner first or cut it off before DS each edge & folding it inside.

ok here comes the queen of pva the trick is to cover the whole book cover in an even layer of pva (can be a generous layer) now let the pva dry completely... put it on a radiator for 20mins or so, let it cool out completely.. now get your paper and put on top, grab some greaseproof paper and put on top, now put your iron to cotton/NO steam and iron the top of the greaseproof paper.. when you remove the gp paper your other paper will be securely stuck to the front of your book.

I've used Nicky's 'ironing tip' before and believe me that cover isn't going anywhere

the pva is super quick.. just plaster all your books, leave them in the airing cupboard, blast them with a hairdryer or put them on all the radiators... once its dried and cooled (i tend to put my stuff into the fridge for a couple of minutes) and will manage the ironing in minutes...

i just did the same with a box im altering

I did a fancy cover for my son's music lesson book and have protected it with the clear film you cover books with. It looks fine and should now withstand a bit a mistreatment. WH smith sell it.
