Thread: Trace tool

    Trace tool

    Hello, when I try and use the trace tool, select trace area, all I get is a black box?
    Thanks for any help.

    I get a dark shaded area around the area I trace. I have to wait a mo for it to clear to show the cut lines.
    Are you saying you get a black box over the area traced and unable to adjust the trace underneath cause you cant see it?

    Maureen is right Tricia there is a dark grey around the box. You then have to slide across the 'threshold' for the outline to go yellow. See pictures below in the default position. The yellow is just starting to show.

    This picture is with the threshold slider at 96%. The ted is not the best example because the edges of fur but it should give you an idea. I zoom in and edit points to get the outline clear. If your box is completely black then there is a problem with your Studio software.

    Yes that's what I've always had but now it's changed and is completely black where I put the trace area, I can't see any yellow at all anymore.

    Trisha all I can suggest is to reinstall Studio. If it was a problem with my Studio I would uninstall Studio first, reboot my computer and reinstall the latest version.

    Thanks Neries. Will I lose my files? Can I put/save them somewhere first to make sure I don't lose them?.

    You can find details of how to back up your Library here Tricia, just scroll down and follow the instructions for whichever version of the software you have.

    Thanks a lot, can i just pick your brains one more time? I have a portrait machine, the original one, and designer edition. Would you still have the latest upgrade even though lots of it doesn't apply to your machine?

    Did you do a back up and what vesrion of Studio were and are you using ?

    I tried to do a back up, thought i had, then updated studio and they've all gone except three files. I tried to recover all the ones from silhouette but there was just the three I've already got. I tried everything suggested online to get them back but there we are.
    On the plus side it solved my original problem.

    Tricia any files from The Store you have missing can be re-downloaded by going into your account. Just click on your name and a drop down menu should appear. Free files which came with your Portrait should reload when you connect it with Studio.

    When you backed up your files did you specify where on your computer to save the file? Mine are in my documents.

    Yes I did that on the store and all there is the three I've still got?
    I thought I'd saved them to documents but I can't find them.
