Susie it does look like youíre making headway. The devil is in the detail So planning is the way to go..and itís half the fun of it.
BTW.,you may want to see this if youíre considering faux grass.

I found this too but edited it (poorly) as it had a bad swear word in it and didnít want to offend.

What could that offensive word be Elaine, furry friend perhaps? That is so funny and quite believable of a cat too. Interesting about the grass too, I would never have thought of that side of things. Mind you, it would suit our young guy down to the ground, he's the daft one that likes to lie on the deck in full sun if we let him.

Here is what I was doing at 3 pm today. This is the bracelet my neighbour wanted me to make. I popped over to see her earlier and all it needs now is the magnetic clasps. She is thrilled with it.

That’s beautiful Sheila. Love those colours together.

I can imagine a cat to do that.

Susie, I would find planning a craft room mind blowing.
My DD would be the planner for me, and DH would be the carpenter and the builder.
I bet it will look lovely once done. I don’t think things have to be the same, a bit of
    variety is good.
What was the dog woofing at?

Hope the cables get fitted soon Denise.

The dog doesn't know what he's woofing at Ellie. Earlier I went to sit down with a snack and then moved to the sofa, the old guy stood staring at the chair as if I was still sitting there. He really is going blind and senile bless him.

Lovely bracelet Sheila, very intricate it must have taken ages and be quite a strain on your eyes.

Great LO Mary and I just love the title.

Ellie the craft room is a nightmare. We have spent the whole afternoon planning and getting nowhere. It would be easier to throw everything away and start again but the sensible part of me just can't do that. This unit holds most of my 12x12 papers and a few flowery bits and bobs. Imagine all the inserts I'd have to buy to hold that lot and to clear it out is going to be a massive job in itself. Believe it or not, after about 2 hours hubby said would you like one of the bigger bedrooms? The very thing I've been asking him for for about 2 years! It would make sense if I had the rear bedroom because the afternoon light is great in there, but hubby built units all round that room and it would mean ripping them out and they are huge wardrobes and full so that brings us back to square one.

Here's a photo of the unit that holds 12x12 card sorry I took off the label holders Elaine, they were annoying me. This was also what I was doing at 4pm, 5pm, 6pm, 7pm, 8pm and up until about half an hour ago. In the end, we were too exhausted to think about it.

I think the best way to go about this is to clear the room (where will it all go) decorate it and put in new floor, then start at the window with the first Kallix units and a worktop. If I keep my computer unit which holds tons of stuff, that could go in next and then see how it looks. That will et us see how much workable space I will have and give me an idea of how much storage I'll need, lots obviously and maybe build it up from there. If I feel some of the units I've got now are worth keeping then I'll keep them. So long as it is tidy again, with everything that should be away, put away and more workspace, then that might have to do. The Kallax units are quite cheap and I already have one with inserts so with another one and some workspace it would be a good start.

What do you all think, how would you go about it? Any ideas would be very welcome.

Wow that is a lot of card stock ,!!!you do need a lot of storage.
Why can’t you put all your loose stuff in boxes and move everything to a spare bedroom while
you decide where the units will go ? It’s no good asking me how many units you need,
because as I said before, I have to make do with one desk, with 3 small drawers on either side,
    and 2 Shelves above!!
Elaine will help I’m sure. Good luck with the planning.

Those units look as though they have served you well but they are past their best so I would be ruthless and buy replacements...but you know me! So, I would do as you say and start from the window, work out how much space you have and if you really can’t part with them, put them in there and see what they look like. Once the room is decorated and new floor etc you won’t Want to put shabby stuff back believe me (sorry I hope you’re not offended I called them shabby) ..they do look as through they are been great units though. I personally would have a tall Kallax units and those trays or flat boxes we talked about before to put the papers in. Use as much wall space as you can, don’t stick to desk level units. Make the most of the wall too. The height of the taller Kallax means you can still put something on top in trays or boxes. Alternatively, a lower Kallax (like the one you were given) with a Billy book case on top with open shelves. HTH
Like Ellie says..you will have to decamp your stuff into the spare room whilst it’s all going on.
