I had another response from Sil.Am. which said "This has been happening to some accounts that have changed emails and it is definitely a more advanced concern. To get you more help and to expedite this troubleshooting process, the next step will have to be a call with our senior software specialist." Then follows instructions to schedule a call back and how to enable 'remote access' to my computer.
To be honest I'm not sure that I can be bothered, I'm suffering intermittent health problems and never know from day to day how I'll be feeling so perhaps I'll just use V.3 when there's a file I want that isn't available on my current version 4.2.279. Life seems to have become so complicated since the age of technology!

so does this move the entire library to wherever, or merely copy it. I would just like to back it up

Maureen exporting your library is only exporting a copy to your computer.
