Oh blimy Susie, pipes bursting all over!!
We have a cover over our outside tap ,so it doesn’t usually freeze.
DH turns the water off, and as I mentioned , he leaves the tap open.

I was going to say the same thing about Elaine’s dog
He better be careful or he will burn his nose!
    They look very comfortable.

Hope you are feeling warmer now Mary.
    Have you got much snow.
It’s been blowing all day here today, and bitterly cold.

    Is DH feeling better Susie?

It's such a sheltered spot Ellie that we never even thought about it and wouldn't have thought it could do that but it has been cold rather than snowy here. We certainly will be turning it off next year and wrapping it, maybe put a little thermal jacket on it. The wind has really got up now and it will be bitterly cold when we take the dogs out later, they won't be happy.

Talking of thermals, I can't find my thermal leggings so I'm now wearing a pair of hubby's, I just hope I don't get run over when I'm out with the dogs.

Are you okay now Mary? The snow had really drifted into the car port hadn't it.

Hubby is having another lie down after the walk, he does look pale and has done since yesterday. I'll check his blood pressure after.

Has your s-i-l got a heater up in her bedroom Ellie. Those ceramic ones look good, expensive to buy but economical to run I believe.

Because I have so many units blocking the radiator in my craft room I have this little low wattage heater in here. It's a little radiant panel and is only 200 watts but with the door shut it keeps the room quite cosy.

I had to laugh at that saying Susie. My mom always used to say to me,
“ have you got clean underwear on”. Why! I’d say. “ because you don’t want to get
run over without a clean vest and knickers on “ !!
I used to think. Why does she think I’m going to get run over

It doesn’t matter if they keep you warm Susie.
I bought a pair of thermal long socks. One size, fits all. Instead of just coming up to
my knees ,they reach my thighs ! If I had a suspenders belt, I could fasten them up
Oh gosh that brought another memory to mind.
When we used to wear stockings and belts, if one of the little rubber buttons broke,
We used to use a little silver sixpence to keep them up!!
Blimy the things you think about !

No SIL has no heating upstairs. Says she doesn’t want any!
She has a hot water bottle if she’s cold.
DH is going to talk to her. But you can talk till you are Blue in the face,
and she will still do as she wants.
    Keep warm walking the dogs.
    Ellie

Tell me about it (the last bit) we have a neighbour like that. Whoever said 'you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink' knew what they were talking about.

I bought the long socks too Ellie and today when I went out in my furry boots I had them on with a pair of those bed socks over, my feet were like toast. In fact, apart from my face and hands which even with gloves on (hands that is) I can't keep them warm, my fingers feel like they're freezing, but as I say apart from them I was lovely and warm I was wrapped up so well.

I remember last day of term in the final year at grammar school we were allowed to wear stockings. Well, I took the stockings but forgot about the suspender belt so I had this brilliant idea, I would pin them, with a saftey pin, to my navy blue official school knickers, I ended up with great big runs in the stockings. That's one memory I could have done without remembering thank you Ellie.

Err, I don’t think pins and nylon go well together

We used to mend ladders in our black work stockings, when we couldn’t
afford to buy a new pair. Mine sometimes looked like spiders
    crawling up my legs

Do you remember when woollen tights were the fashion in the 70's. I used to wear them for work in the winter, they were lovely and warm when I was sitting on freezing cold stations. Later hubby borrowed them for work because his cab was so draughty especially round his knees, It was fine for the passengers, the heater in the back worked brilliantly but his front heater never did - he'll kill me if he sees this. These days it would be thermals but then it was woolly tights.

I remember my mum saying the same to me too clean underwear seemed to be very important
also I remember the 6d acting as a thing to help keep your stocking up and also I remember the seam down the back that had to be perfectly straight, what a joy it was when stocking were made without the seam no more struggling to get them in line.

Does anyone else remember wearing liberty bodices?

I love these blast from the past, nail vanish to stop ladders and if you didn't have nail vanish with you a bit of soap would work for a while
I've never managed to get any over the knee socks that stay up they always roll at the top and become most uncomfortable, nowadays I use letting over thick ankle socks
I was very skinny when I was younger and found the suspender belts cut into my hips that was until I found the ones that were just a strip of frilly elastic, my husband would have loved me to go back into stockings and suspender belts but I said no way they are so uncomfortable

I'll bet he would have Mary!

Did you not see my post a couple of weeks ago with the school photo and my vest sleeves showing below my dress sleeves. I mentioned then that I was lucky mum hadn't made me wear my liberty bodice as well. She went by the old saying 'never cast a clout 'til May is out'. So that liberty bodice was worn well past spring.

We've just been out with the dogs for their last walk (tonight that is) and I could have done with my liberty bodice on. The wind has eased a little but I had to have two pairs of gloves on just to keep my hands warm. It can't be as cold as it was earlier today because I was actually roasting on the way back. When you mentioned frilly suspender belts that reminded me of my first bra, it was just little bits of lace really, it didn't have much of a job to do at the time. I walked into my bedroom and mum was showing my auntie and I clearly remember her saying "I wish I could get away with something like this".

Hubby just asked me what a 'clout' is and I had to check, so it's an item of clothing, hence the vest and liberty bodice staying on. Mums, bless them.
