    The DONATE button

    Hi all.

I have a guy. He knows vB and helps out with some of the technical bits. He has been trying to help with a DONATE button. Sometime last night he got it working, sort of. You can see it at the top there under the layouts strip.

It doesn't seem to be working exactly right as it makes me set a goal (totally arbitrary, that £100 ) and it doesn't seem to be tracking the donations (Dan99 is officially the first person ever to donate to help support UKS! round of applause please...and a massive THANK YOU!) but it does send money. I THINK it has set amounts, maybe in £5 increments.

My guy will perhaps try a few more things to make it work better, so if it comes and goes, or changes location or shape, that will be why.

I just felt like I should explain, so if you donate and don't see the bar change at all, that is why.

Cheers all - I can't always tell from the PayPal name who the UKS person is, but I have had a few come thru. Very kind.

Now I just need to know if you get charged a fee for donating. PayPal doesn't tell me. And if you want to be recognized as a donor. I had thought a page with a list, but I know some might prefer to be anonymous. In which case it might be better to let people just post here when they donate if they want to be acknowledged.

I need to finalize some bank account stuff (just moved the account and it all toke a lot longer than I expected!) then I will send out the sponsorship email. Once I do that I will have a better idea of where UKS is. If most sponsors carry on as last year, plus the donations and the ad revenue, I think UKS will be just fine!

So another way to help is to buy from a sponsor and tell them that you are doing so because they support UKS! Let them know you appreciate their sponsorship.

A handful of helpers and I are working behind the scenes and hope that by 1 February there will be a better plan for the year. Watch this space

It looks like I wasn't charged for donating MA, only the actual donation amount seems to have been deducted from my paypal account.

The fact that anyone donates confirms that UKS does still matter and working to keep it open is worth doing.

    Thank you all.

My tech guy is working on making the button look and work better. Expect it to change. I believe that it should always be possible to collapse the button bar using the little down arrow on the right so it isn't always there in your face (humm - probably shouldn't mention that LOL!) so if it annoys, give that a go.

I think the Donate button should stay visible to remind us that donations will always be needed to keep the site working.
