    Packing Tape text transfer surprise!

I have played with doing a pull from a Gelli Plate onto packing tape before but this worked and it surprised me

    1. Cut out a bit of magazine text - this is actually from an ancient Scrapbooking magazine - and put the packing tape sticky side down over the text.

    2. Burnish WELL.

    3. Soak the packing tape in warm water and gently rub away the paper, leaving the printed text stuck to the tape.

    LET THE TAPE DRY COMPLETELY

    The sticky will come back.

When it does, you can then carry on and pull your gelli print behind the text!

Here is the tape stuck to a mini-book cover

I actually dusted the remaining sticky on the back with mica powder then ran the whole thing thru my Xyron to stick it to the book cover. But I think this would totally work for a scrapbook page title too although perhaps most useful for Art Journals

Oooh liking the look of that MA. Is packing tape standard sellotape or is it more like a clear version of the brown tape for packing parcels?

When they say "packing tape" it's generally the 2 inch tape like the brown tape for parcels. BUT I did grab a roll of thinner, 1 inch tape from wilkinsons that is like thin packing tape (ie not as easy to tear a sellotape) for only 10p the roll and I was able to pull a Gelli print on that no problem. I have not tried doing the image transfer and letting it dry to see if it is sticky enough to do the two-stage process like with the packing tape, but I have a feeling it might work.

I think for adding text, like to an AJ, this would be ACE. I will say that while PHOTOCOPY toner will work, from what I remember of packing tape transfers in general, ink-jet prints WILL NOT - just FYI

the clear version of the brown sticky stuff works best as its wider so gives you more room to play with, although I have had some success with normal tape on smaller sizes.
Re the packing stuff tho, if you're near a staples theirs is like an ultra clear and doesnt yellow with time, I cant comment on any other make Ive just found this one ideal for it. it also works the same with any laser printed image or text.

Ah need to have a mooch round the shops for some clear packing tape. Our local shops only seem to have the brown. We don't have a staples sadly but I will pop into Wilkos over the weekend for a look

I would bet Rymans would have clear tape, and maybe even the PO if it's one of the big ones. And I know our local Staples moved into an old OCWorld space and they have a LOT less stuff than they used to. I haven't checked it for packing tape so ...

    Cool technique

I've bought the wide clear tape from Wilkos and Lidl in the past, but my last roll came from Asda
