Love the tin! What a cute image. I bet she will love it.
I've caused a kerfuffle on my blog by posting a couple of "offensive" quilts. So far the comments are split 50/50 (only 4 so not exactly a representative sample) with a couple of LOVE ITs and a couple of I am not following you anymore ones I expected that, but hey, I gotta be true to myself and I like them both, especially the f-bomb one.
My craftiness will be cleaning up my catastrophe of a room, been to the Dr. already and got DH off to another chili cook-off (stop by if you are on the Isle of Wight) so that is top of my list. Then I have a mini book idea to try and some quilting to work on too. Finished one that was a gift for Maddie's escort but I have 3 in progress, none of which will take too much to complete.
Good grief... for what its worth Sunbonnet Sue has been around the block for so long that the first quilt you pictured is by no means new - I'm sure I can remember these blocks being discussed on the RCTQ newsgroup (Rec.Crafts.Textiles.Quilting) when I hung out there in 1999... and I think we even came up with new ideas for future blocks...
As for the second quilt, my work server has decided it doesn't want to display it so I'll have to wait til I get in to view it in all its glory (gory?).
BUT - whatever happened to freedom of speech? It's YOUR blog, you are entitled to post/write whatever you like, if someone doesn't like it then rather than throwing their toys out the pram in public why don't they just shuffle off silently? You gave full warning as to what you were posting, we are all adults and know how to hit the "back" button on our browsers if we come across something we don't like. No need to flounce and act all prissy like that!
And I for one LOVE the Sunbonnet Sue quilt!
...Weasel AKA Suzie... Wise Weasel Witterings ... Eagles may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines!
I think Sue is funny and I totally get what you were saying about the second quilt: while i wouldn't want to own it, and probably would be offended if someone gave it to me, I completely understand your point about the stylistic word block repetition theme. I could easily see the same with a name or some other such as (pick: love, faith, joy, blah blah), which are much less controversial, and probably would have been lauded by your negative commenters.
Even my husband laughed at the second one, and he is disinterested in most art. I say if you don't like it, move on. I follow a blog where I love 99% of her art, but her last post made me feel a little uncomfortable, I chose not to comment as it's her art and her right to do what she wants. I'm sure I'll love the next project she does (and am sure there are plenty of people who would hate pr not get my blog, but hey, who cares)
If you like it and it's not hurting anyone vulnerable, why shouldn't you be able to share it!
Must admit I don't like either quilt, and would certainly never post a picture of the second one, but you gave plenty of notice that they could be offensive so it is not your fault if I don't like it!
I don't like The Sun Sets on Sunbonnet Sue, as I don't like the design. although I don't like what it says on the second quilt I love it. it is very colourful. I cant see why they had a problem.
Got a chance to at least begining the little mini-book idea I had. Not sure why I love the tall thin pages, but I do
Step-by-steps on my blog and here is another shot of it opened out:
Personally I pretty much hate the Sunbonnet Sue pattern (she reminds me of the no-mouth stamp-kids somehow) so I can look at it and laugh. When I made a card eons ago with a Tilda head (that I got pre-stamped as a little gift when I bought something...my Copics from the Marketplace, maybe?) skewered on a shish kebab skewer, I didn't get a finger wagged at me for posting it. Funnily enough when I showed DH the first thing he said was "That will lose you some followers..." and indeed two people took the time to tell me they wouldn't be following me anymore.
Ah well. Must watch a Disney movie called PROM with Maddie today. Maybe I can convince her to watch Pretty in Pink or the Breakfast Club instead....
I love that mini-book, they aren't something I do as I never know how to use them!
I am planning to pack away the lego that my two son's no longer play with but don't want to get rid of (terrible hoarders - I think they have got that from me ). Unlike their younger sister who has piled a load of her old stuff in my bedroom for me to flog on an auction site - she just likes to keep bits of paper and drawings etc. Will have to sneak lego into the loft (which is very big but somewhat already full of junk!) as DH moans each time I take more stuff up there.
Then I want to re-sort all my scrapbook papers and embellies. I put them into kits a while back but some kits aren't getting used and others have too little left to make them usable so time for a resort (and possible chuck out).
Have a good day all

Reason: re-sort paper not go on holiday to a resort
I can't see what's wrong with either quilt.. it's your blog and you gave them plenty or warning that it may offend.. they need to lighten up and another poster said!
Just enjoying the sunshine at the caravan in tropical Northumberland (not often I get to say that) Was tinkering with a couple of art journal backgrounds but my neocolours were melting so I put them away. Love that mini MA - but I too do love tall thin pages.
Off for a look at the controversial quilt Im not easily offended and if any of your followers are they can just "jog on"

I *love* that tall thin mini book MaryAnne - it has all my favourite summery sweetie colours. I'm not easily offended so I've no moral problem with either of those quilts, but neither of them is my taste at all. I'm not a big fan of picture or word patches. My favourite quilts are ones with lovely rich colours.
I have been painting today (watercolours). I saw some lovely framed prints in a shop last weekend, so I took a photo and I've been trying to paint something similar today. I haven't done any painting for months so I really enjoyed it. I might try and print them small enough to use on cards or notelets.
I'd ordered a 'how to sketch' book, it arrived today, it's a shame I hadn't read the description as it was a child's book! Ah well. I copied the drawing from the front and will donate the book to the local animal rescue.
Claudia, I envy you- your watercolours are lovely. I think they would look very pretty printed up as notelets or cards! I wish I could do something like that.
I did make and decorate a couple of crackers last night- to go on top of a baby present. However that has been the extent of my 'craftiness for a while. I think I may try and do a layout today now it is so much cooler. Less chance of sticking to the photos!!
Can't comment on your blog MA but LOVE both quilts My Sister had a T shirt with every swear word ever printed on it - i REALLY wanted it when she died as it reminded me of her - the sweetest , kindest woman on the planet too - its only words.
