OSNNSSU - July Part 1 - NEW STASH!

    Happy July Everyone!

I hope that you're all enjoying the lovely weather- although, I will confess, it's a little warm for me... You'd think that, as an August baby, I'd be used to it by now!

My sketch this week kicks us off on the 'new stash' road, so grab your latest purchases and join in! If you've any new SU items, they're always lovely to see, but otherwise please do grab anything you've just had the guilty (or not!) pleasure of acquiring, and spend a little time cool indoors, popping together a layout for our challenge

I chose the new 'Epic Day' papers, as I've only used them for one layout and then stroked them since (oops)

My photo is of a retreat I went to a few years ago, where I was late to dinner and lost my seat, and ended up sitting with a fab bunch of ladies who were not strangers after about 5 minutes - I'm constantly blown away by the openness and warmth of fellow crafters You may well recognise yourself in the bunch, they're definitely UKSers!

I decided that as the photograph was quite strong, I needed a plain background and not too much detail that would detract or make the layout over busy, so I chose the relatively plain patterned 'b-sides' of the papers, teamed with plain card, to create my layers. The circle was cut with my EK Success Circle Scissor (I have a WRMK one for larger circles too - LOVE them both!), and my title was made using Thickers - a brand new, untouched packet!

I felt that the simplicity made the layout, so didn't get too heavy handed with embellishments - I think the jute ribbon sufficed quite nicely, along with my new butterfly punches I do feel I may be adding to this though, maybe some bodies or extra layers on the butterflies... and my journalling too.

I know it's a busy time of year, but would LOVE to see some more people joining in this month, so please do come on over and give it a go - I might even rustle up a little something special for you if you do... And if you can't join in because you *GASP* have no new stash (yeah, right, I believe you, millions wouldn't...) then drop me a line or to see a copy of the new SU catalogues and I'll do you a postage deal, as always

Thanks for stopping by, see you soon!

Love this sketch and it helped me make a page that I hadn't been able to do before. I knew I wanted to use this photo with this paper, and your circle was the thing I needed to combine the two without overwhelming the background. I pared back the other elements as I really wanted to show most of the background paper. It's all old stash - and I have no idea how old the beach paper is.

Great layouts you two! I recognise Epic Day papers of course Leanie, as I'm using them myself so much They are quite versatile; if you want bold you can have it, yet when you don't want to overwhelm the photo then there's a choice for that too.

Amanda, love that beach paper, and you're right, the sketch has suited your photo perfectly. Not too distracting with other elements and really set off by the circle paper.

A lovely page Sarah, great colours and that hexagon border is really effective. Did you have to cut/punch them or was it already done?

Thank you. It's actually a digital page and the hexagons were an element that I cut apart so that I could duplicate them and move them around to suit where they were going.

Don't quite know about digi queen judging by some very talented digi scrappers on here.

Do you know when the 'old' part is going to be up, only I've put a LO in the gallery for that part too. I wouldn't be able to do it until August if I didn't do it tonight.
    Love, Sarah xoxo
