    February 2013 Extra Inspiration

For the extra inspiration this month I thought we'd take a look at ideas for making embellishments from our paper scraps/leftovers.

Many different embellishments can be made just from using shapes. Look at an object then look at what shapes make it up in a simplified way. You can then start to build up embellishments from these shapes. It's a great way to make use of our punches too as many punches/dies are simples shapes like rectangles, squares, circles etc.

Here's a quick idea to make camera embellishments.

I started off with my paper trimmer, a mini square punch, a die with two circles and a mini hole punch. You'll also need some foam pads:

    Step by Step

    1. Cut out two rectangles from cardstock approximately 1.5 inches x 1 inch. Cut out another piece 1 inch x 0.5 inches. Cut out two circles of cardstock one slightly smaller than the other. Iíve used a die for this but you could use punches or cut them out freehand. Cut out a strip of patterned paper, 1.5 inches x 0.5 inches. Finally cut out a square of paper just slightly smaller than 0.5 inches, again I used a punch for this but you can just use a trimmer or cut freehand again.

    2. Punch a small hole in the top right corner of one of the rectangles. Cut a small piece of red card and glue it over the back of the hole.

    3. Glue the square of paper to the top of the smaller rectangle of card. Glue it to the top right corner of one of the larger rectangles of card so the square is roughly half way overlapping the top edge.

    4. Glue the paper rectangle across the middle of the second rectangle of card. Fix the two circles of card together with a foam pad. Glue the circles over the top of the paper rectangle so it's central.

    5. Layer the two rectangles together with foam pads fixing the one with the circles on top. That's your camera complete!

Back on the theme for this month, here I've used one of these camera embellishments and a leftover Christmas sticker to decorate a journalling card that could be used for a project life style layout.

What other embellishments could you make up using simple shapes and punches? Hope you have a play
