    October's Project, Step by Step

My sincere thanks to Dawn this month, who kindly let me know this post wasn't showing to everyone! That's not very useful! I think you can see it now... although I do spot the irony in this post not showing up when I tell you that this month's 'something different' is that there are... no pictures.

Your challenge is to follow a set of steps by the end of the month, then on the last day of the month we will all share our projects at the same time and see how similar they ended up! It's still twenty steps from start to finish, and I hope you enjoy this mystery process.

    Here you go:

    1. The solid cardstock sheet is your background. You can ink or distress the edges if you like.

    2. Cut a 4x11.5 inch box from the polka dot paper. Ink the edges if you like - this applies to all paper pieces from here on out.

    3. Adhere the polka dot box on the left of the page, leaving some border of the cardstock on all sides.

    4. Mat your photos on more of the polka dot paper, but don't attach to the layout just yet.

    5. Cut a piece of striped paper slightly bigger than the photo mat, but don't attach to the photo mat or the background yet.

    6. Cut out one of the motifs from the remaining patterned paper.

    7. Make a messy stack with the matted photos on top and the stripes on the bottom. The cut-out motif can either go on top of the photo or in between the two layers, depending on how your motif works best.

    8. Attach all that to the page, in the top left corner on top of the polka dots.

    9. Add pop dots here and there under those layers to emphasise the messy stack option. You can also curl the edges of some of the paper layers around your finger or a pencil for more dimension.

    10. Cut out two more motifs from that final sheet of patterned paper.

    11. Cut a strip of polka dots about 1x4 inches (wider if your cut-out pieces are big). You can cut one side with a border punch if you like.

    12. Attach that strip of polka dots at the bottom of the page, to the right.

    13. Cut another piece about 2x3 inches from the stripe. No border punch this time.

    14. Layer the stripe and the two cut-out motifs in a mini messy stack on top of the polka dots.

    15. Again curl some edges and/or add some foam squares for depth.

    16. Add the title below the top stack, quite close to the bottom layer of paper. Big letters for the main word(s); small letters for supporting words or sub-title.

    17. Use more small letters at the bottom right for date, location or some other short caption.

    18. Wrap twine or ribbon around the page from top to bottom at the left edge of the polka dot strip. Tie in a bow or knot near the photos.

    19. Add your writing straight on the background cardstock, directly below the title. Use the polka dot strip as your left margin.

    20. Sprinkle gems or enamel dots or similar in three groups of three as a finishing touch. One group of three in an uneven triangle around the photos, another group with the title and the third group in the bottom corner. Try placing the gems in spots where they touch the edges of various page elements rather than just floating in empty space.

NOW… create your page between now and the end of the month. On HALLOWEEN, we share! Upload your page to the gallery and/or your blog on the 31st of October and we'll see all the different versions as they come together without the pictures in the tutorial.

Enjoy the CHALLENGE of something completely different this month!

Shimelle thanks for this mystery challenge. I used some really old single sided paper that is so bright I thought I would never use it. This challenge has encouraged me to be more brave with my colour choices. Really pleased with the page so far, will put on the finishing touches later and then upload on Halloween.

Ooh I like challenges like this. I've done them before and the results can be very different from the same instructions.

Done my layout, usually really struggle with these sorts of challenges but found this one ok, guessing it's because Shimelle gave us sizes and her type of scrapping suits my style! Love my finished page, can't wait to see how similar/different it is to hers and everyone else's!
