    September's Project, Step by Step!

Start with your background paper plus three rectangular journaling boxes. Cut them out if they are part of a larger sheet (these are a sheet from Echo Park's For the Record 2) and ink the edges if you like.

Attach them in the bottom left corner of the page, with some space between each one. They don't need to be lined up perfectly straight, but keep the angles subtle. A little tilt goes a long way!

Start with your largest round journaling spot. Ink the edges if you want (that goes for everything) and attach it to the background above and to the right of the journaling cards.

Select three smaller round journaling spots. Without adhering, place these in a triangle around the larger spot. Place one near the top of the page, running off the right edge of the background. Place another below the large spot, overlapping the journaling card on the far right. Place the final card overlapping the middle journaling card.

Once you're happy with the placement, attach the three smaller circles with foam squares.

Cut off the excess of the spot at the top right edge.

Add chipboard embellishments in the same shape - so in this case, round. Add them in places where they connect with other elements, like overlapping the large journaling spot or tucked slightly under one of the smaller popped circles.

Cut a border strip from a patterned paper or use a border sticker, branding strip, washi tape, ribbon or anything else that can act as a line.

Add that horizontal line to the bottom of the page, over the journaling cards.

Use punches, dies, cutters or scissors to cut some photos into shapes that balance the size of the journaling spots. Obviously this doesn't work for all kinds of photos. Choose some with small details you can show without the full image.

Start placing the cropped photos into the page design. Place them in contact with other page elements, like in a grouping with a journaling spot and a chipboard shape or overlapping the journaling card elements.

Be sure to include a photo that also goes off the page in the top corner. It will create balance with the idea of multiple page elements continuing off the background. Just trim off any excess.

Look at your journaling spots to see if there are any pieces that make a natural frame, like a photo that fits inside the frame.

Add a sticker or die-cut to the bottom right with the journaling cards.

Your photo might look best right on top of the sticker...

...or you might prefer it slightly off-set.

Add one word of your title in a large, bold lettering style. (I used Thickers in the Lullaby font.)

Add more words to the title using a smaller flat letter sticker (I used Sassafras glitter letters).

    Write on your journaling spots!

Embellish with some small and easily repeatable. I used a felt flower topped with a paper flower and a pearl brad, and made three of them to place at the top right, bottom right and middle left of the page to draw a triangle shape around all the photos and writing of the page.

    Here's the finished page!

Now it's your turn... and keep in mind you can adapt this idea to work with whatever journaling spots you might have on hand. I find I buy plenty of circles but use more rectangles, so wanted to make sure I put those to use. But you could adapt the design to other shapes too.

Be sure to share your page in the gallery, and thank you so much for your understanding with this month's odd timing! It's great to be back... and also great to have a place to craft!

I looked at this and thought that it was so not me.

Then I realised that is exactly what this class is about!!! So am now trying to handcut circular photos as my dies are too big or too small. Can't wait now to see my final result

    Thanks Shimelle

here is mine - I did not have suitable journaling spots so I went on-line and found these Olympic ones which worked well with the theme

Mines in the gallery now - a bit blurry because I used my phone to take the picture. I painted a lot of the chipboard (and the title) to match my colour scheme - and managed to use loads of old bits and pieces up!

This was a bit too 'different' for me as it stands, but I added a large photo and used patterned paper rather than lots of journalling spots to make a page that I really like.
