    Clean and Simple Art Journalling.....

Do you think Clean and Simple can be applied to Art Journaling? Do you know where I might find some examples?

    Thanks

Great question - really interesting thread.

Your art journalling style can be whatever you want it to be, so yes, clean and simple could definitely apply.

The colourful 'messier' styles (for want of a better word!) are definitely popular, but to my mind the whole point of art journalling is to do exactly what you feel you want to do, in the style that you like to work with. It doesn't matter if it's not like what everbody else is doing.

I like artists who have a distinctive personal style, rather than all the samey stuff that's around.

I'm not sure about examples but I'll have a look through my AJ books and see if I can find some....

Edited later to add: I've had a look and can't find much, (which makes me want to give it a try myself!)

Thanks girls, love your blog Efemera, you've got some very interesting pieces on there.

Miss Lemon, I've done research and come up blank, definitely will give it a try just a bit concerned it might look like a diary entry rather than an art journal!! I guess I can but try.

An AJ can be whatever you want it to be. If you look at Julie Fei-Fan Balzer's Art Journal Every Day it has a defintie diary quality to it. I did her 30 days in a journal class and you can see what I do on my blog. Particularly here: http://newlycreative.blogspot.com/20...mber-2011.html

You can see a page that Martha Lever has done if you scroll down this page: http://marthalever.blogspot.com/2011...all-pears.html

    Hi Lou

Have you seen Gwen Diehns books? She presents the messy, layered style as just one type of journaling (sometimes it seems like the only one). They might not be what you are looking for but are my favourite art books ever!

How funny that I read this thread today and here I am!! Even funnier is that I joined a free online workshop and have been playing around with all those paints and inks and having such fun. (But still like a quick collage journal page too!!) The link to the free workshop is on my blog, plus you can sign up also for a sketching workshop starting on 1st Feb!

Many thanks to Lou for starting this thread - I have been trying to start the Art Journal course for a few weeks and looking at everyone's work etc and thinking"there's no way I can do that" especially as there seems to be many talented artists out there - my scrapbook style is quite clean and graphic so was thrilled when I read this request - especially the link to the collage journals - much more my cup of tea as I am always cutting pictures from magazines etc........... this has definitely given me the oomph up the backside now to actually make a start ........... thank you thank you .... Sheila
