Gill, Jill & Gilly I hadn't realised ! There were 4 gillians in my last year at school !

(we must be common - tee hee).#

Claudia that is a brilliant picture - and is a likeness too - a GREAT way to draw a self portrait is to photocopy the original picture but lighten it up a lot so you have a very basic outline - I've done that in the past - I used to go to art classes in the 90's - I would love to have the time to do them again.

Anyway, thought I'd share another of my pages - as you know, I don't like to share them as I never feel they are up to any of your standards - and I'm not just saying that.................

I am REALLY into GEL MEDIUM TRANSFER at the moment - which is brilliant
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=833_lPJ050Q - & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQLed...eature=related love the effect of the end result. & I really love the packing tape transfer as: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dfos9hy9xdg

    Gilly your pages are lovely.
Thanks for the self portrait tip, mind you I don't think I will ever get to Claudia's standard and would have a few more wrinkles that's for sure.

But that's the great thing about painting a self-portrait - you don't have to paint exactly what's there (wrinkles, spots etc!) You can 'interpret' the subject matter imaginatively instead, and paint yourself any way you like.

I like the purple eyes and dramatic pink hair much more than the reality!

Do you have an online inspiration folder or a 'real' one? I have a ring binder stuffed full of all sorts of reference photos and inspirational pics. When I want to use some I take them out of the binder and pin them up above my work desk. Right now I'm interested in fish (their silhouettes and the way they move), so my pinboard is decidedly fishy!

What does everyone else do with their inspiration/reference pics?

I have a lovely stuff folder too and a RUB for any cut outs, bits of fabric etc etc that may snag my attention. I really must have a go at doing some more layouts soon and get some pics up on here. My standard is nothing like that of any of you girls but AJing is free therapy for me - quiet time, thinking time.

    Claudia, when I get that project up and going I'll be sure to post here. I was planning to do layouts inspired by different cultures but what the subjects are I'm not 100% sure yet. Here are some of my ideas;

    1. Greek key border and draw a greek urn on it (half my family are greek), light blue, white and black page. Things I value/put stock in.

    2. Tribal man or tribal tattoo pattern on one (NZ inspired), black, earthy brown, rich green. Some fern type patterning. Page about inner strength/warrior self.

    3. An arabian flavoured page - with a hourglass on it (sand, desert etc), colours of gold, dark red/burgundy, raspberry, royal purple. A little pearlescent ink on it. I want a real sumptuous feeling page. This page is about the value of time and how we don't always make the best of it.

    4. UK page is going to have bunting drawn or made out of paper/fabric on it, lots of red white and blue here. Bunting is going to look worn and damaged. Pretty down themed page. "Proud to be British?" (maybe scrawled graffiti style on a brick wall type background). Just some thoughts about perceptions of the British from abroad and my thoughts on the state of the country. I want to keep it contemporary with the riots and things. I like my journal to be a snapshot in time in my life but with some wider info in it as well.

    5. Indian themed page. Brick red, sandstone and spice colours. Henna patterns drawn on hands. No idea what it is about yet though.

That's where I have got at the moment. Don't mind if anyone else decides to do the same thing (although a little mention wouldn't go amiss )!

That series of pages sounds lovely, Nipper. Look forward to seeing them come together.

I did a couple of Moroccan-inspired pages here, but it wasn't a specific theme; just a general feeling for the colours and patterns. I might do some more pages with that same feel actually - makes me think of lovely warm sunshine, instead of this current British chill!

Love the page Rosie. I've left you a comment.

I'm hoping to take some time out for drawing today. I've spent the last few days glued to the laptop working on the store. I'm feeling in need of a creative break today. I doodled a bird on my notebook last night and I fancy popping one on a background I already have done.
