I already have a reserve list request, but not a chance of me running two at the same time! I'll leave that sort of thing to Sarah - the Queen of CJ's.

I'm hoping to have a go at art journalling, have my alcohol ink, gesso, texture paste and some border stamps on the way

Just been watching Dyan Reaveley's Ghosting video on tutorial http://youtu.be/m25lxe_aBLM

Which looks so simple I want to have a go, But before I do, I have a couple of questions.

probably have more as I get into it lol

    1. If I was to use this technique on a Canvas would I need to Gesso first then allow to dry?

    2. Would I need to gesso my pages in my sketch book before starting?

    Thank you in advance

Ghosting is a fab and easy technique... I remember Dyan showing us how to do this at the AFTH breakfast workshop at the GNPE last March.

To answer your questions... in general if using gesso you would need to let it dry first before you put anything over the top. However, it does dry quite quickly as you only need a thin layer.

Whether or not you need gesso depends on the surface... many canvases will already be "primed" (basically, coated, same as you would with gesso) so don't need gesso. Whether you gesso your art journal pages depends on your preferences and also on the pages in your journal... if the paper is quite thin then a layer of gesso is a good way to stiffen it.

However... in my personal experience I have found that gesso is great for using as a base coat on pages you want to paint on (it helps the paint to move around and blend a bit) but it's not so good for spray inked pages... I find you don't get such an intense colour from the inks as the white of the gesso still shows through somewhat. Gesso also makes the paper less absorbent so may affect how the ghosting technique works.

Sooo... in general, from personal experience, I'd advise against gessoing a page you're going to do a spray ink background on.
