Silhouette Cameo - first hands on
Good afternoon all,
I've finally managed to get my hands on the new Cameo machine and thought I'd drop by share some info and a video I've recorded. Its a basic video of me just cutting a simple wedding invite/card blank design, the interesting part is it is being cut out of 315gsm card stock with ease!
I must admit I have taken a real liking to the Cameo; it seems to do everything right. It cuts a bit quicker, it cuts thicker material & it cuts up to 12inch - plus the consumables seem to have been improved; the carrier sheets are a cross between the old style adhesive (as used on the CC100/CC200 carrier sheets) and the new grid style (CC300/CC330) and the new blade with it's 1-10 depth settings is excellent... as I said, I've taken a liking to the Cameo.
You can view the video at the following link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLjxeOiX-aE
I've also added a new video showing a 12x12 print & cut.

Thank you Brian, off to watch your video.
It looks great and if it cuts 315g card that's even better

That looks really good Brian - especially impressed that it was cutting 315 gsm. Any idea what the price is going to be yet?

The final price is not set as of yet but I am reliably told that the Cameo's will retail for "just under £300".

Brian did it take alot of test cuts to work out the depth of the cutting blade and thanks for the video glad it'll cut heavier card stock too.

Have to agree with you Anne, would like sound and a look at the innards but an interesting little sneak peek, thanks Brian. I would love to see this machine do a perfect print and cut - I am still using my little blue lidded original CR, plus I have another bigger machine and I really don't make full use of that one because it has no optical eye and P&C has to be done "in reverse" and is a pain in the you know what. I bought it for the greater cutting power for thicker card, and at that time couldn't justify the cost of a professional machine with an optical eye. However my trusty old CR never lets me down with P&C (fingers crossed I haven't just jinxed it!) and is still going like a steam train. I think a Cameo will probably be my eventual replacement for my CR when it gives up the ghost, but I hope that won't be for a while yet. Things have come an awfully long way since I got my first machine, that's for sure.

More or less the same as with the current CraftROBO-Silhouette models; I started with mid range settings as it was thick media, test cut, slight increase in force, another test cut... rinse & repeat a couple of times and it was spot on.

In my noisy office this was the safest bet. I just wanted a quick video to show the machine cutting 315gsm cardstock. I'll leave the fancy videos with mood music and commentary to the marketing people.

It does have a pause button! I was using this to switch sketch pens mid design and it worked great.

I want one, I know 'I want never gets', so I neeeed one!!
If I get time to do another video with some different (maybe thicker) media I will be sure to keep the lid up so you can see a bit more.

No sample machines going spare are there Brian... testers required or anything like that - just thought I'd ask..
