Could not get write access to Preferences

Hi, I am trying to transfer my silhouette from Vista to Windows 7. I have downloaded Studio but get this message when I click on it.

Could not get write access to preferences

I can't see what I have done wrong but wondered if anyone else had come up against this.

The problem is probably with Win7, I had all sorts of problems like this when I changed over, my advice, do a Google search they can fix anything

have this problem too! have asked advice before but nobody seems able to help. graphtec have no ideas either

Hi This person had same problem maybe you could pm for a copy of the patch that she was sent

Try this, Click on the Start button > All Programs > right click the Silhouette Studio Folder. From the drop down menu click on Properties then click on the Security Tab. Click on System in the Group or User names box and look to see if there is a tick to allow access against where it says Write. If not click on Edit to change permissions and just put a tick in the Allow box for Write then click apply. Don't know if it will solve your problem but it's worth a try !!

I've been looking at my download copy of Studio, the one that downloads to your PC not the one in the Program folder.

If you right click on it, at the bottom of the little window where it says SECURITY mine said that it blocked to protect something or other, click on the unblock button, then Apply, then OK to close the window and see if it will install now. I'm just guessing but maybe the security settings for your Win7 are set really high and stops programs that are blocked from being installed, as I said just a guess but worth a try.

Thank you Lucille I'm all sorted now.

Their support staff gave me a link to re-download the software and reset all my designs so I could download them again.

after weeks of trying, now have sillhouette on laptop with win7!
contacted sillhouette america. had tried graphtec with no success. maybe i'll be able to get more crafting done now!!

GraphtecUK aren't the people to ask for help with the Studio software, always contact Graphtec America who are Silhouette America. They are usually helpful and quick to reply.
