Jane, I've just looked at your journal page and it's really good, I don't know what you're worried about!
As for worrying about what your hubby thinks, don't show him!! I couldn't give a monkeys what mine thinks, I don't do the arty stuff for anyone but me. He likes my "normal" scrapbook albums but just looks puzzled with my arty stuff, you can see him wondering what it's "for" (why does everything in a man's life have to have a purpose??!!)
I'm still a bit confused myself by art journalling, and recently made my own "Smash" book which is much less intimidating for me, so right now, I'm doing lots more stuff in that, than I would do in a scary blank journal page. I'm getting there, though! Also looking forward to a Kate Crane class at Art from the Heart, where she will hopefully teach me to do lots of blank mini journal pages and not be so scared of white paper lol!!
I think what I'm trying to say is, do what you do for yourself, and if no=one "gets" it, or even wants it whenb you're gone, then so be it. You enjoyed making it, and it made you feel fulfilled, and that's enough.

Hello everyone! I always seem to miss the good discussions!

I tend not to write anything too detailed if it's personal, or I do, then then I'll put another layer over the top so it can't be read fully.

I don't have any kids (and won't be having any), so my journals won't be passed on, but that's fine with me. I do it for me and I'm the kind of person who is always moving on and evolving. I have no problem binning my own work if I decide I don't like it much anymore.

YorkshireKaren - hehehe! My hubby is like yours! He's a very practical person and doesn't really 'get' any of my art. But he's super-supportive because he knows it does mean something to me!

Oh, and no need to be confused by art journalling - it's a very vague phrase that covers whatever you want to do in a book. If you do any kind of drawing/painting/collage in a book, then I would argue that's an art journal!

    hi all,

i don't share my journals very often as i like them to be personal...and was gobsmacked the other day when my hubby declared that he would treasure them when i was gone he's not really into most crafty stuff...and just about tolerates scrapping as long as i don't take photos of him in restaurants! do they all hate that??? lol

that said...i don't do them for him...i do them for me...and i'd be quite happy if they died when i do!!

from that handy link in my signature.....

Still no new pages - or anything from me. Backwards and forwards to school this week with DD starting and DS's assembly and what not. I also think that maybe getting stuff for DS's birthday should perhaps take priority over my journals.

I've been playing with watercolours on synthetic paper. Quite colourful and interesting. Have put on my blog, along with some photography which is definitely not colourful!

I've never heard of Yupo paper before - but I love what you've done with it!

Not sure if you can get it over here now. I had to order it from USA but that was over a year ago. It's very weird to work on - quite a challenge. The paint is never really fixed so you can just wipe it off at any point). It's very difficult to layer, because sweeping a wet brush across it removes the layer underneath. But I'm having fun experimenting!

It's raining here today and I don't have any plans so I think I'll get stuck into some more playing today.
