Coloursoft pencils - getting started - help needed!

Has anyone else used Coloursoft pencils?

Bit worried about using the solvent for blending, I did read that you could use baby oil instead. Anyone got any tips to share?

Also how many would you recommend in buying to get started. Thankx

Baby oil?! Seriously? I can't believe that - surely you'd just end up with grease everywhere??

The solvent couldn't be easier to use - what is it you're concerned about? I don't know what happens if you spill it, but I've never done that......yet, lol! You only use a tiny little bit at a time, I usually tip some into the cap.

I use Zest-It pencil blend, which is a non-toxic alternative. Works really well. Does smell quite strongly though as it is made from the zest of citrus fruit! I don't personally mind the odour, it's not unpleasant.

I haven't used baby oil personally, but I have read that people use that method successfully!

You can also use a blending pencil. Most companies do them I think, I know Derwent do - I bought a pack recently containing burnishing and blending pencils.

Yes I did wonder when I read about the baby oil alternative, but some people seem to find it works well.

Baby oil has commonly been used for blending oil pastels for decades (as a gentler alternative to solvent), so I guess it works the same way with coloursoft pencils. You only use a very tiny amount.

I use them, with a product called "Sansodor" and paper stumps.

Well I never.....you learn something new every day, etc etc! I suppose it must smell quite nice, too?
