I like the look of the Art Journal one too. I've wondered about day courses there before but it's a bit far away. A weekend would be better.

All the links to on-line courses are good too. i don't know which to choose.

Btw, TKMaxx have some notebooks that are really good for mini journals. Hard back ones fastened by an elastic between £1 and £1.99. (The £1 ones are the same quality, just older stock). Or 3x softback ones for the same price. They are lined but open completely flat. They are by the checkouts rather than with the other notebooks/scrapbooking stuff.

I just posted my latest art journal page (a double-entry, actually) on my blog. I was hesitant about posting it as it sounded a bit gloomy, but it was just a temporary thing. I'm much better today....just ordered a new art journal book, 'Creative Wildfire' by L K Ludwig. Saw it at our local crop and decided it's a 'must have'! (Aren't they all???)

Finally managed to do some journalling and have put it on my blog - as we gradually emerge from the boxes and all the bits of the house that appear to have got broken while it was empty!! It felt VERY good to sit down in my new studio, find things I'd carefully put away, and play with them!! Result

I sat and did some backgrounds while at my crop yesterday, that's about it from me at the moment. I have an over eager not listening DS today combined with a short tempered DH...ah, Happy Mothers Day folks!

    Hello all.

JaneH - I definitely agree that pages can be shared (if you choose) that are both 'up' and 'down' - that's what journalling is all about, and you're right: everyone does have days like that so we can all relate. Glad you're feeling more positive today.

Vicki - Ah, the joys of family life! I'm lucky in one way not to have kids as it means I have plenty of nice quiet 'me' time. But of course I miss out in other ways.

Rosie - I really know what you mean. Moving to a new place is a really big deal, and very unsettling to your sense of who you are and where home is. I'm certain the new place will start to feel like home eventually but I think it just takes time and there's no shortcut to hurry it along. I think working on your studio and journalling about it are exactly the right ways to work through the strangeness of it all. The fact that the cats are happy and you've already met some nice crafty ladies are very good signs though! Whereabouts are you now, by the way? How far north?

Edited to Add: I just finished this page - it will make no sense from this thumbnail, but the apparent nonsense is fully explained on the blog!!

    Specific YouTube recommendations?

    Hi all

I’ve seen a few of you mentioning YouTube videos with Art Journalling tutorials / techniques

I tend to do all my “reading up” on stuff at work, where YT is sadly blocked, and when at home I try not to use the computer too much, preferring to spend what little free time I have actually making things! I run past the laptop and pop a comment on Facebook in passing or write an email or two, but I have a rule at home not to sit in front of the computer for more than a couple of minutes if I can avoid it (as that’s what I do all day at work….)

So because of all that, I’ve not seen any of these technique vids.

Now last night I thought I’d see what all the fuss is about, and typed “art journalling” into the search box on YT, and OMG – there are millions of them! I started to watch a couple but they were quite long, and the two I picked at random didn’t seem particularly inspiring.

But I know there must be good ones in there somewhere, so I thought rather than waste too much time ploughing through thousands and thousands of videos panning for gold, I’d ask you nice ladies for some specific recommendations

Direct links would be fab! To anything you’ve seen that you got to the end of and thought either “wow, I’ve really learned something there” or “what gorgeous inspirational artwork!”.

Or does YouTube have any rating system that I’m unaware of that I can use to search for only the most recommended videos?

    Thanks in advance, peeps!

Good post Flo. There is indeed a load of not-very-special clips out there! I've spent time browsing in the past and found hardly any that have really impressed me. In fact, I have a Favourites Folder for Art Journalling Inspiration and there are a good few blogs in it, but no Youtube clips.

I'm keen now too, to see if anyone else can recommend any gems.

Glad you posted that Flo. I'm in a similar position to you and spend a lot of my time during the day on the computer (with sites like YT and personal blogs blocked!) so avoid too much contact in the evenings. If I go online in connection with crafts it's to look at blogs but I should be interested to have recommendations for tutorials.

Almost anything by Milliande is good. If you register with YouTube you can subscribe to particular people's video stream and can opt for email updates when a new video is uploaded. Can save a lot of time surfing. Will certainly add links whenever I see a good one. In fact would it be worth having a separate thread just for that so the links don't get lost in the general chatting?
