Oooooh, I'm longing for a desert island....just me, my stash, and my magazines! No laundry, errands, grocery shopping, housework, TV, etc. Anyone else ever feel that way?

I just picked up some new magazines (Somerset Apprentice, Somerset Studio, Take Ten, and Craft Stamper) at my local craft store, Pickleberry Papercrafts (they're a UKS sponsor so I can use their name ). I am now firmly entrenched in my comfy recliner, filling myself with ideas and inspiration... plus I've started an online art course for mixed media. It's agony to even take time to shower and dress!!!

Hope you don't mind my jumping in.. I have been lurking in the hope my mojo might be inspired!

Jane - can I ask which online course you are doing? I have been having a mega search for different courses to try and find one I'd really like to do! Thanks

I'm interested to see what Jane is doing too. I have done online art journaling courses with Dina Wakley on Get IT Scrapped

Well, at the risk of getting my fingers slapped....it's called She-Art. It's led by Christy Tomlinson. It's not actually art journaling, though the only reason I'm taking it is that what Christy is teaching is DIRECTLY transferable to art journaling. There is a new class starting April 11th. The one I'm taking just started on Monday so you may (no promises as I really don't know) be able to get in. She does a ton of how-to videos on preparing canvases but everything so far also could apply to an art journal page. Christy draws these funny little women figures (thus the "She-Art") but it's the art techniques that made me want to take the course. Oh, and it's a very reasonable US$ 35 fee. She uses lots of everyday materials that you probably already have (acrylic paints, gesso, gel medium, texture paste, and things like bubble-wrap, stencils, masks, etc.) so there's not much to buy, if anything.

    Hope that helps.

Sounds like heaven to me! I have to wait until Friday to indulge again, assuming all chores are done.

Course sounds good, will pop and have a looksie.

Oh I did look at that course but this week was a bit awkward for starting. I will be interested to hear how you get on and am considering signing up for the next one. Actually....there are loads of courses I fancy doing how to choose?!

I've looked at it as well, Feb was just too soon. Might sign up for it in April.

becslb - have you looked at the Willowing.ning courses? Tam ran a free one just before Christmas and you can still join and do the course.

I looked at it too but decided not to take it on - partly due to all the other stuff I'm doing and partly because I don't want to do faces!

Oh goodie Ė nor me! I was beginning to think I was the only person in the world of art journalling who has zero interest in painting slightly sad looking ladies with their heads held at odd angles Thatís absolutely not a dig in the slightest at those who DO like to paint said jaunty angled ladies, itís just not really what floats my personal boat.

I can understand that. I did the willowing course, firstly as it was free, secondly to remind myself of how to do stuff. That was a healing course, but didn't let that put me off as it was jam packed with idea's.

Yes, I did the willowing course - purely for the ideas - sometimes think I am in a bit of a rut though hence looking at other courses

Yeah, the 'Shes' are limiting. How many can we use, after all? I took the course more for the techniques with the backgrounds, how to use the mediums and tools, etc. The course wants us to use canvases for the female figures, but I'm not doing that either. I have nowhere to store or display a bunch of canvases of the figures that all look pretty much alike anyway. I've already picked up some ideas for backgrounds for my art journals, plus a few useful PDFs.

    What's the 'willowing' course?
