    Tim Holtz Distress Inks

I've just been reading some tutorials on colouring stamped images using Distress Inks, but at £4.99 a shot, and 24 in the set, it might prove pricey.

Does anyone know whether cheaper brands work the same, can you suggest any or if these are the ones I should go for, who sells them the cheapest?

You can use Distress inks to colour in as the ink is designed to stay wet and wick when touched by water, and makes fantastic backgrounds as a result. It is hard however to use one colour of DI to colour in an image stamped in a different colour of DI as they will bleed and blend. You would need to use a permanent ink to stamp like StazOn or Versafine. Adirondacks do something similar in that you can paint with them either by stamping then using a damp paint brush touch into the ink and the paint brush will pick some of the ink up allowing you to paint a shade or two lighter than the stamped outline but same colour or you can rub the ink onto an acrylic block or craft sheet and pick it up with a damp brush to colour in images stamped with a permanent ink like StazOn or Versafine. Adirondacks also make great bckgrounds.

If you are going to invest in either of these inks then you get inks that will do backgrounds, stamp images and be used for colouring, but if your main need is colouring in then I am not sure these would be your best buy.

Oh and cheap inks are exactly that and I would avoid them really as they will not do any job ink is used for well. Some of the better inks come in small pads so that makes it more affordable but not unfortunately the Distress inks.

I would never pay £4.99 for a distress ink !!!!

Just had a gander, and i can see the reinkers as cheap as £3.50 and the pads from £4.40. I've also seen the alcohol inks from £3.15

I get my Tim Holtz pads for £2.50 each.

I love them, I am planning on completing a set of his tags as part of my Christmas Decorations this year.

£2.50 for an inkpad is a fantastic price. Where from? I pay about £3.50-£3.90 for mine. I adore them!

Not sure where exactly to ask this question so am trying here first

Apart from the foam pads is the belnding tool exactly the same as the alcohol applicator tool. I can't see any obviouse difference they both seem to have velcro to attach the pads. I already have the alcolhol one and was just going to buy some foam pads for it. Then I saw they are selling a seperate tool and wondered why?

    Thanks Sara x
