Using the bezier tool in Inkscape?

I keep trying to draw a heart shape with no success, I am using Inkscape .46 so do not have the Spiro tool. My heart shape lines are blocky not curved, how do you do it, please?

use the polygon tool with 5 sides.
    path object path
then use 2nd icon done -edit paths by nodes

then push out the sides and drag in the top middle bit to make the heart deeper.
then drag the bottom lines in to form the point

just done a sample very quick one to show you

Its easy Jill after you have clicked out your shape and while it still selected, click on the Edit nodes tool and drag an imaginary box around it to select all the nodes (they should all turn blue) then click on the button for 'making selected nodes smooth' it's on the top tool bar, just hover your cursor over them to get a little box that tells you what they do.

The tutorial isn't about drawing hearts as there are hundreds of ways to draw hearts and hundreds of dingbats, it was to help people learn something about the nodes and editing them.

You could try a heart dingbat as well.
