OK I have done a bit of a tester. I went out and bought 4 pastel pencils and some Sansodor.

Firstly I tried the pastels with the sansodor using stumps - result brilliant!! Much easier to blend as has been said.

Secondly I tried the Prismas with the sansodor - much better than the Gamsol - tried both also with cotton buds - useless as they absorb too much spirit.

Thirdly I tried the above on different cardstock and found the best by far is the Paper Mill card - the one I have is slightly hammered but it blends beautifully with the pastels and the Prismas with Sansodor. Gamsol doesn't blend as easily. I tried it also on some smooth white heavier cardstock and that was fine. Thin cardstock shows the spirit marks too much.

Conclusion - Sansodor is brill, the right cardstock makes all the difference and I am definitely building my collection of pastel pencils up!!! Prismas are still fine and I will continue to use them. Just got to find some Derwent stumps now!!!

Kim I agree totally with you, I think the pastel pencils look better than the prismas when blended and they blend easier too..... but I also need to find the derwent paper stumps...

I think if I had discovered the pastels first before I ordered the prismas I would have stuck with them, but the sansador and blending stumps turned up before the prismas and I had a few pastel pencils in the draw and just had to use the sansador on something, that was when I discovered how good they were, the prismas turned up a few days later....

and I have a grand child on the way too..... but not until May!!

Do the pastel pencils need "fixed" once blended?

What pastel pencils do you use? I've not used these before but they sound good. Can't believe I'm even thinking of more pencils......

I have never had to "fix" them as the sansador blending spirit seems to do that for you, they are quite fixed once you have finished blending them.

I use the Derwent Pastels, I do have a tin of 24 Daler Rowney that I bought for a different reason ages ago and never used them, but a local shop was closing down and I managed to get extra Derwent ones for 60p each which worked out slightly less than buying a tin of them. Now I have 46 of them. But both kinds are really good, I think I like the Derwent ones slightly better but both blend well...
