    converting GSD files

I own a craft robo and design most of my files in inkscape. I have had some requests for my files but some people need KNK, WPC or AI formats.

Is it possible to convert GSD files into any of these formats and if so how and with what programs.

Why not just publish your files as GSD and svg or DXF format then those who need other formats can convert them in their own programs.

If you google around, you will find some articles to convert GSD to WPC and there is also a video to convert GSD into KNK.

yes, but this is posted from the artist's point of view: you do need the KNK software to do gsd to KNK so the artist ( if she doesn't have that software) should consider saving her files in a format that can be read by multiple programs and many of these programs can read .svg and .dxf files.
If I have a KNK and don't have a Robo then I can't open the gsd files to convert them .

yep, that's true. I though that Joanne wanted to convert them all herself, in order to have them available in different formats.

Thanks for your input, I think I'm going to have to get me hands on some KNK software or just continue to sell GSD files, that might be easier

Converting some GSD files is difficult depending on the template. Some simple templates can be done as screen save then pasted into paintshop or something simular and filled black and then saved as a bmp or jpeg and can be traced.

I dont understand why you want to convert the GSD file when you have the orignal inscape file. It would be easier and better if you provided the file from Inscape.

According to my manual if you have designed most of your files in inscape then you should be able to save the file as a "eps" if asked check the boxes next to : Make bounding boxk round the full page, and: Comvert to Vestor when asked.

When importing an eps file the person will need to select :use PDF import filter, and apparently in some cases the file may need tp have the path broken to remove the bounding box.

apparently KNK software can use DXF, PDF, BMP, AL, Jpeg and lots of others that I dont know of yet!

I have not really played with it much as I normaly use other software for craftrobo and now have to many toys!

Is the money you might get for the sale of the different formats going to cover the costs of your time and effort spent in converting them?

i have the opposite issue. I work in Ai format and i have great problems getting them to GSD. Although there is a limited GSD export option, for complex files it's just not good enough.

KNK Studio and Design Master have limited GSD import, thus you can't depend on it at all. On the other hand, both programs can import Inkscape files that are saved as either .eps (with bounding box option checked) or even the .dxf format you use to import into RoboMaster. I'm not sure which format can be read by WinPC Sign or Funtime from Inkscape.

On the other hand... if you ALSO just share the .svg format then ANYONE can open it back up in Inkscape and save in whatever format they want. For example, as a KNK Studio addict (who also helps users with DM :-), I prefer .eps over .dxf. BUT, if I have access to the .svg file, then I can easily open it back up in Inkscape and save it in .eps if that's what I want to use.

Thus, I think providing .gsd and Inkscape .svg helps to reach the most people. For those who design in Adobe Illustrator, providing in .ai version 8 and either .dxf OR .gsd, will reach the most users.

Thanks for taking everyone into consideration with this question!

From AI all you do is convert to dfx and then load into robomaster I have had no problems touch wood so far

With regards to converting into the other formats knk it is desirable to have the software so as has been already mentioned you will have an outlay and need to weigh up the initial cost and what you think you can sell to recoup or the other option would be to find someone who can covert for you HTH
