I havent got the wizad hot foil but ive not heard any good comments.I have bought the foil to use with the laser printer /photocopier but havent had chance to use it yet.The company i purchased this from is pretty reliable though. You can use an iron or a laminator to set the foil.Theres no need to set immediately after printing.

Does anyone have a piccie they could post to demonstrate?
Apparently it will still work after a few weeks. You can pop it through a laminator instead of using an iron

    Laser printer hot foiling

Hi, another question about hot-foiling... I am fine with the method (laser print, sheet of Tonertex and household iron) but I haven't found a laser printer that takes thick card, I like to use 260gsm or heavier. The problem mainly is that office equip is designed to prevent 2 pages going through at a time, therefore limited to about 160gsm, too thin for my cards. I'd like to know how people who have bought a home laser printer are getting on, are they doing cards or just tags, or just scrapbooking?

I make my inkjet printer take thick card by feeding one at a time and just as it's going in I put pressure on the end of the card - it works no problem.

Thanks Sue, yeah I do that with my inkjet, with a good shove 300gsm will go through. Just wondering if the same is true of lasers as I don't want to buy one and find I can't use it for the sole purpose I bought it.

    Hi
I have just returned from a craft show in Newbury where I saw the hot foil wizard machine used, it is excellent, you can print anything you like on to velum, tracing or parchment paper, attach this to your card appropriately, a special foil comes with the machine, put this between the attached greeting and the card and use the wizard machine to trace over the greeting. Just as you would when tracing a picture as a child. Quite pricey, they may come down in time.

Laser printers don't use ink like the inkjet printers do, they use a powder which is heat sealed onto the paper. Presumably the hot foiling melts the powder a bit again and this gets the foil to stick. The photocopiers I've worked with use the same principle, so with either of these machines there isn't a drying time as such, and I assume this means you should be able to foil their printouts well after the time they are printed.

Both laser printers and this type of photocopier use a drum and belt arrangement to feed the paper and heat seal the powder, so you may need to do some careful investigation regarding the workings with repsect to heavier weight card, as it obviously may not take kindly to being bent around the curves!

I'm being daft I still don't fully understand. Do you use rub on foil over dried photocopied or laser print then heat it with an iron? Anyone know of detailed instructions anywhere?
