    Glazes

    Hi everyone
I brought a copy of Bev Brazeltons 'Altered Books Workshop' and ive searched loads of websites and i just cant find glazes like the ones she uses. All ive found is clear glazes. If i was to mix clear glaze with acrylic paint would it give me the same effect as the glazes she uses or does anyone know where i can get some?

    Thanks

Ranger does some tinted glossy accents I think. I use paper plus tea dye varnish but that's matt not glossy - they do other tinted varnishes though. If you google ' "paper plus" varnish ' or ' "paper plus" glaze ' you will find their silver and gold glazes plus a color finish to mix with acrylics - I'm very tempted! You have to hunt around though.

We're digging that book in our house, too. To get coloured glazes, we got a set of 24 Reeves acrylic paints from the Range, and mixed them in a palette with a little scumble glaze, because we had a bottle, and thinned it with a little water. It worked really well, and made some fantastic glaze. It does show the brushstrokes, but you can have fun dabbing the paper with various things - polystyrene packaging, plastic bags, kitchen paper...
The advantages of this plan is you probably have the acrylic paint already, but if you don't, it's dirt cheap these days, you can have almost infinite colours, and the scumble glaze is really good value. And you could do it today! You get it in B&Q in the stencilling bit, and ours cost about 5.50 if I remember right. Dab some into your palette with a lolly stick, so it'll last ages. Plus, you don't have half a dozen bottles cluttering up your work space, or worse, have to choose two or three colours for space/cash reasons.
And take Traci Bautista's advice (that's another fab book if you don't have it, I think it's called Collage, Create, Play or something, it's on Amazon anyway) and wipe out your pallette (or whatever you use) with a babywipe. Which you can use later.
    Have fun.

    just wanted to say hello

    Hello!

I've just bought that book too as I'm brand new to altered books. I'm embarking on my first one and am having exactly the same snag trying to get glazes. I'm going to give the scumble glaze thing a go as I've got loads of acrylics. The book has some great tips in, I can't wait to try out the little drawers! Anyway good luck.

    Hello Scrappysara and everyone,

I sent you an e-mail with info re glazes used by Bev Brazelton. Because I am a new member, I am not allowed to post URLs; this is why I contacted you by e-mail. I hope it will reach you.
    Regards,
    zora
