"see thru" stamps?

Hi
I've just bought my first set of alphabet stamps after a lot of
dithering about fonts :rolleyes:
They are Seedstamps so not really see thru as the letters themselves
are the usual rubber although the mounting block is clear.

Now I'm wondering if I should buy totally see thru ones next time,
both stamps and blocks.Are they much easier to position?

And my other problem is that both my boys names use duplicate letters.
Are there any tips for this problem, as i bought a fairly long mounting block
so that I could fit whole words/ names on but forgot about needing more than
one of the same letter :angry:

Why is nothing simple in life!!!

i find that you get used to the spacing between the letters and with a bit of practice, being able to see where you are placing them is enough..
as for the extra letters... buy another set??? if you can :unsure: or mount them onto the block so that you can leave the doubles blank... so for dominic i would stick down domin then take the "i" and move it to make dom nic then stamp, next round i replace the next i and then restamp... just with the doublicate letter on the block...

im sure theres an easier way of doing it though and will be interested to see how the pros get round the issue

I have some of the SeeD's stamp sets and some of the Woodwear perfectly clear sets and really like them both, the clear ones are marginally easier to line up and postion, but that would'nt stop me buying more of the SeeD's.

I find the easiest way to line up words if I have to stamp them in sections is to draw a line on the stamping block with a felt pen or one of those over head projector pens, and then line the stamps for the rest of the printing on the line. You could also draw a line onto the page you are printing if you need to get it really straight.

Good tips from both of you that I don't think i would have come up
with very quickly.
I think I'm going to have to get practiced at the duplicate letter
thing as buying 4 sets of every font I like (2 uppercase, 2 lowercase)
will break the bank and cause storage problems :blink:

I've deliberately got a font that doesn't need to be dead straight to look
right as I've heard they can cause problems.

If only I'd known about scrapbooking when we decided on names :lol:

it is probably a 'me' thing but i always stamp the last letter first..so i know there will be enough room...wierd huh?

I used to buy stamps from a lady in Devon who would make a whole sheet of A4 rubber stamps of whatever you liked, I'd fill an A4 page to the brim and she would make them for me! All for the bargain price of £20. Ive had things like Emillie and Olivers names done etc.... Will find her number if you like!!??

there are acrylic blocks with grid lines on them now that make lining up very easy. Also, most of the alpha stamps that are sold in the market now come with duplicate letters of the most often used ones. So you should have enough to spell out a word/name.

I have may sets that have duplicate letters. The ones that come to mind are Stampendous, Rusty Pickle, Making Memories.

For clear stamps I really love the My Sentiments Exactly stamps - they were a revelation for me. The mixed case sets often have duplicates of important letters...

Am currently dithering about lowercase "Snow" and it's lovely retro look! :wacko:

I love the See D's stamps and had no problem lining up d'ups. I just stamped the word without the duplicate letter, leaving a letter sized space for it in the middle then moved the letter into its space, removed the other letters, stamped the one in the middle - easy to line up and it worked fine.
