ive got a 12 x 12 paper cutter but it was only a cheap one to get me going.
What paper cutters do you all use? Thinking of up-grading but not too sure to what!!!!

I'm after the Making Memories 12x12 trimmer, it's £50 but supposed to last a lifetime
Although my £15 supermarket guillotine/trimmer is doing me quite well for now, which gives me chance to save up :)
ETA both cheap ones I've had so far have not lasted, hence wanting the MM one!
I've had my Making Memories cutter a week now and I am chuffed to bits with it:D Well worth the investment
I love my cutterpede by EK success, the blades last for ages.
Sarah
NOT the Provocraft one -- frustrates me every time I get it out :o
Love the Carl Craft (?) one, but mines needs sending back as a piece fell off after a couple of weeks
Currently on a £15 from Aldi one. Has guillotine (sp) and rotary on it, and the 2 sides pull apart for packing away. Only complaint would be you can't measure less than 3cm or more than 23 cm on guillotine, or less than 2cm or more than 21 cm on rotary -- but the rotary has the best grip while cutting of any I've used :) Was definitely a good 'impule' buy
I am happy with my Fiskars one - I've had it a year now and no problems.
That's the one I have Cheryl, I work mainly 8x8 which is 20cm so it's ideal for me :)
ETA otherwise I just mark with a pencil first :)
I have the ek success cutterpede too, and i really like it. but then I had the PC one before and it was pretty rubbish. i don't cut photos on mine though, as I have a guillotine style one for that.
you can get decorative blades on most rotary ones too, which can be nice if you like that sort of thing.
I wish I had one of each for a side by side comparison.
There are quite a few others, like the one by Purple Cow, the Tonic one, the really expensive one that you have to order and has it's own light :D (I must find the name!) and others.
What I think I need is a library post that lists all the cutters and people can go there and comment, like on the home page, and the comments will stay. It will be like an ongoing review! This same topic has come up a lot recently and I really want to know too!
I'll never change from my Fiskars. I have both the little one and the big one, the little one is used most but the big one is great when cutting alot, or if I had the space to have it out all the time.
Now I had my fiskars one but never really got on with it! I have a fabby cutterpede but it needs a new cutting mat (yep, turned it round each way you can) and it's on it's 2nd blade in 6 months) so today I recieved my MM rotary cutter. Not had time to use it yet though.
i have a x-cut rotary one, and it works well, makes a great job of photos aswell which was a problem with my old one, nice and light for crops ect
I have a provocraft one for crops and a guillotine from staples for use at home.
Not too happy with Provocraft though and problem with guillotine at home is that it measures in cm not inches (planning on sticking a paper tape measure (the kind that Ikea give away lol) to it to fix that problem) and you can't cut anything small because the safety guard thingy that stops you getting too close to the blade means you can't hold it still. And, there's no guide to show you EXACTLY where you're cutting.
I'm thinking about the MM trimmer, does anyone know whether you can cut small paper or whether there is a guide line that shows exactly where your cut is going to be? Also, is it heavy?
Another vote for the making memories one, it is the best EVA!!! :D
My PC one doesn't cut straight! There is too much movement in the blade slide so you don't get an exact right angle.
Would love either the purple cow or MM one, but I can't justify the extra cost. I tend to stick with using my craft knife and metal ruler!
the making memories one is fab :)
Yes please, MaryAnne! I currently have an X-cut guillotine, which is fine for card but can only cut up to A5. I also have a Dahle rotary cutter which has done sterling service for years, but the blade is blunting now, and despite an international search I cannot get a replacement which is useable! Also, the base and / or sides aren't quite true, so you have to be really careful to get square corners. DD has the X-cut 12 x 12 rotary trimmer, which feels a bit flimsy (the 12" extension keeps falling off!) but cuts OKQuote:

I'm looking to replace my Dahle, so I will watch this with interest. Perhaps a poll would be useful?
I'm seriously considering the MM one for my birthday next month. I've got a cheapy rotary cutter from argos and it doesn't cut straight!
i love my carl cutter - took me a while to get used to it though!
I've got the small (not mini) X-cut guillotine (free with magazine subscription) and it's fab. I also bought a bigger guillotine for 12x12 for £10 from Lidl and it's fab too. They both cut straight and clean which is more than I can say for the rubbish pink and green one I bought.
I use a line cutter which is basically a rotary blade fixed to a ruler and its great - cuts striaght every time and will trim the tiniest amount of something no problem. Only drawback is you have to have a cutting mat to cut on and to measure.
I do fancy the MM one but what weight is it? Is it siutable for taking to crops? Although I do most of my scrapping at home I don't want to find I couldn't take it to crops.
Some kind of library where we can compare cutters would be great :)
I'm watching this thread with interest as I'm trying to justify buying the MM one, I had a Carl rotary cutter but couldn't get on with it as it never seemed to cut straight. I now have a Fiskars trimmer and found it was fine at first but now doesn't cut straight either, and as a bit of a perfectionist, this really bugs me!
I've got the fiskars - have you tried rotating/changing the cutting strip? Thats what I have found is the reason when it goes a bit wonky.
I am so fed up with cutters!
Had the p craft one which I am not using now as its not cutting nicely same with the fiskars one. Went to staples and got a large rotary one, which cuts lovely but not square, this is a big issue for me I am fed up with it, alos if using thin paper they slip under the end!
Thinking of saving up for the MM one but would love to see one in the flesh!
I love my fiskars one sooooo much. The blades are so sharp (which i learnt to my peril yesterday as it plunged into my thumb) but its so acurate on the measuring so i can divide my 12x12 into 6x6 soooo easily
Same here, I have the provo one & fed up with buying new blade & then they only last a short time. I seem to cut PP them have to trim jagged edges off with scissors:angry: Drives me mad.Quote:

Which one have you got? Mine isn't the rotary type, it has a swing out arm which allows you to measure 12" but no matter how I try it doesn't cut straight! (no problems with the sharpness of the blade as the plaster on my finger testifies!)

not sure, I've had it for over a year, so possibly the old one?Quote:

I got the new one with the swing out arm from John Lewis (as i had a voucher to spend) But i have found that i dont line it up with the swing arm, just the top as the swing arm if you look at it isnt completely straight so it wont cut straight.
I have spent more money that I care to count of cutters, tried 3 fiskars none of which I got on with, plus the provocraft one found the blade blunted too quickly and tore the paper being cut. Eventually I bought a Rotatrim which was about £60.00, but it was the best money I ever spent. I have had it for nearly a year now, it cuts a perfectly straight line every time, plus comes with 10 other shaped blades, so will be sticking to this one for the forseeable future. :)

Are there othersout there who have the Friskars one & like it:unsure:
You cant beat the creative memories one. The best yet.Cazz
I've got the Fiskars and love it. I do always make sure I've got spare blades though.
I've got the new Fiskars one but find when cutting photos the blade blunts too quickly (less than a month, with not that much use).Quote:

I just received the MM trimmer in the post this morning (thanks to A Trip Down Memory Lane) so I'm going to have a play with that after DS goes to bed tonight.
It's a little heavier than I was expecting but I definitely wouldn't say it's heavy and it fits in the middle section of my AMM tote (well almost, it's a little tall so you have to push the carry handly to the side)
Will post tomorrow and let you know what I think to it's cutting ability
I'm with Karen. I bought my Rotatrim over 2 years ago and its been the best. We also have a small x-cut and hubby has an Avery (useless!) and a Rodahle which blunted in no time.
I'm bookmarking this thread as Im thinking of getting a new trimmer, at the moment just use a knife, metal ruler and a cutting mat, so would welcome any comments on which one to go for!!!!!!!
My vote is for Fiskars.
