Die cutting
This is probably a dim question but when I cut using a die I never remember which way up the die should go.
I mean if I'm using paper that's patterned on one side and white on the other which way does the cutting part of the day go ? Pattern side or white?
Thanks

With some of the older dies ie those that don't embossi as well, or those that it doesn't have a right/wong way doesn't matter but for alphas and thos that emboss as well as cut its pattern side/right side of the paper to the cutting side of the die.

Right, Thanks.
I don't use my big shot that often, I have a Silhouette Portrait that I use mostly but when I come to use the few dies I've got I just can't remember.
What's an Alpha?

Alphabet dies. Put the paper the wrong way when using them and youll be writing backwads lol So easy to do though cos ive done it on more than one occasion doh!!!!1

Make sure the side you want is touching the die.

I Always cut the side I want first!! Especially when its a coated card or paper like Mirri board. I would place all your card and paper facing downwards onto your die (the side you want to display) and you can't go much wrong with die cutting.

Thanks all, I'm going to practise this weekend.
I've got the big shot with the long platform and shim and long plates. Do any of you have these, I'm thinking of getting the old style platform with the hinged flaps instead as I don't get on with the shim very well or the longer plates. Any opinion if you've tried both?

I have the blue and teal Big Shot that came with the long hinged plate, but have also bought the smaller magnetic plate when it came out last year. I find that this is very slightly thicker than the normal plate and is great for cutting the more intricate dies. I sometimes still have to do turn the die and go through again, but it is usually much better. Also it's great that it doesn't move around at all once your sandwich is made. Hope that helps. :)

I've got the old pink big shot and I find the shim I've got is a bit loose and it gets scrunched up at the sides and my plates warp terribly is this normal. I keep swapping them round and turning them over, even the long ones warp.

Yes, my plates warp, but I do the same as you and keep turning them. I always use the same one on top and that helps as well. They last a lot longer that way. :)
