Journal is a perfect journaling fornt for the handwritten look without putting pen to paper.  I particularly like the special characters and there is a cute little heart dingbat, a little fish skeleton, and a coffee cup in the character map that might be useful.

ImageSupplies:

3 toning  heavyweight patterned paper
2 plain cardstock
Pair of magnets (optional)
Ribbons
Fibres / narrow ribbons
Beads
Decorative brad or button

Tools:
Paper trimmer
Scissors
Ruler
Bone folder
Piece of thin wire approx 40cm (garden or fuse wire)
Double sided tape & adhesive

Instructions:

The Prep

Cut a sheet of cardstock into 4 measuring 13,5cm squares these are for the inserts.  Cut a piece of plain cardstock 15cm x 10cm and 8cm x 4cm from the other sheet.

Fold the three patterned sheets in half and then half again make sure the folds are clean and sharp. Have your book so that the folded edges are to the bottom and the left side and the open sides are at the top and right.

If you want a magnetic clasp, decide which patterned sheet you want for your front cover and then glue half a magnet 7.5 cm down from the top open edge of the front and 2 cm in from the side (where you would want the fastener to be!)

At the opposite side to the magnet, attach a 12 cm piece of ribbon to the inside edge before you close up the open sides with double sided tape.

The Hinge

Then close the top side of the two inside pages with double sided tape to form open pockets at the end.

Measure 1cm in from the top and bottom edges of the marked fold on both sides, score along these lines using a ruler and embossing tool (for all 3 pieces)

Next on the left hand side of each of your three pieces, make markings along the edge at 2.5cm, then every 2cm, 2cm, 2cm, 2cm, 2cm and 2.5cm should be left at the bottom.  See cutting guide Template guide.

Holding the fold cut down each of the folded edge markings up to the scored line, this will form the spine of the book (repeat for all 3 pieces)

To form hinges, push the first 2cm section inside, to the same for the 3rd and 5th sections of all pieces, which are marked yellow on the cutting guide template.

Place the 2 pieces inside the front cover and line up the hinges.

Roll up the 15 x 10 cm card into a tight tube and weave this through the hinges, you may have to twist it as you weave it through.

Do not cut any off as you need the thickness for the strength.

Using a piece of thin wire as a large needle, thread fibres/ narrow ribbons through the centre of the tube roll and add beads on the end of the fibres to decorate.

The Finishing

Insert card into the pockets of the inside pages and decorate with pull ribbons at the edges.

For the magnetic clasp, fold the 8 x 4 cm card in half and push through gem brad.  Glue the magnet to the middle of the inside and then line up the clasp to the front cover of the book before attaching the ribbon to the inside of the folded card.

Seal the edges with double sided tape when you are satisfied with the positioning.  This makes a little magnetic clasp for the book when closed.

Remember to leave enough ribbon to close the book when you have filled it with photographs and other embellishments.

And don’t forget to check you have your magnets on the correct facing side before you seal it - Check twice!
