Is isopropyl alcohol commonly called surgical spirit?

I read somewhere that you can use isopropyl alcohol instead of blending solution with alcohol inks. I am having problems getting hold of it. Is surgical spirit the common name for this chemical? Any ideas anyone - its just that I seem to be going through loads of blending solution with my alcohol inks and dont want to pay £4.99 again and again

Oh, this is what Wikipedia says: In the UK the equivalent skin preparation is surgical spirit which is always based on an ethyl alcohol-methyl alcohol mixture, and which often has the addition of small quantities of iodoform as a topical bacteriocide.

Not sure if it has another name but I did use alot of it when I was cake decorating, so you could try a shop that sell cake decorating supplies. Hope that helps. I threw a bottle out because I have given up the cake decorating before I had discovered all about alchol inks in scrapbooking, could have kicked myself

I have a bottle of surgical spirit here. It contains....

Castor Oil
Methyl Salicylate
Diethyl Phthlate
Industrial Methylated Spirit

Don't know what it's also known as, I have some (I bought it to unblock printer head), didn't know you could use it with alcohol inks too .

Maplin electronics sell it for about £6.50 for a 400 ml aerosol
