    rolling crafty project.. stuck

trying to make a Christmas pressie for my boyf- some sort of picture/collage to stick in his new flat.
Have seen this and would really like to do make the background of my piccy look somethign like that but have no idea how!

    Anyone have any idea?
Is it printed (wouldn't that use a tonne of ink making a completely blue background!)?
I thought perhaps the paper was blue then it had been distressed with a bit of photoshop followed by some paint and ink.

It's really baffling me and it's a little late for me to start experimenting now but I'd love to be able to make a start tomorrow but have no idea how

edit- oops, sorry about the HUGE piccy

The background is very similar to some Basic Grey PPs. Perhaps you could use a sheet of 12x12 and cut out / print / stamp lettering onto it??
Find me on my blog: Notes on Paper; on Twitter: @notesonpaper and here on Pinterest.

Or you could cut a stencil of letters ie trace them and adjust them to the name you want.
You could print out a large font to copy and fit to page

Agree with Nab... would use a sheet of Basic Grey in your chosen colour and then print the letters and cut them out and glue them to paper - will look very effective!

Yep - abree too that I'd use basic grey, print the letters and stick on OR you can buy stencils in places like Wilkinsons for about 99p or the works and using a very very dry paint stipple brush - stipple the letters - you can also distress them afterwards with a bit of sanding too.

It's lovely the one the you are showing - let us see your finished result.

    Good luck.

    thanks everyone!

I've started working on it now- decided to use photoshop as I have some lovely brushes- going to make a light "grunge" aged background then print onto coloured paper.
Stencils was a fab idea! might use my craft robo to make some next time.

So far it's looking great! now I just have to go get some wood and some varnish.
Will post a piccy when it's done.

    Thanks again for your help!
