I don't know if it makes a difference, but I downloaded and ran Inkscape.47. I then decided to delete the old version. I uninstalled it, but I kept getting a message saying that some of the python dll files had been changed and did I still want to delete them.

I deleted them and went back to run the new version, but it had changed, some of the new tools weren't there. I deleted the unzipped folder and went back to the original.47 zip and extracted them again.

Since then it's been fine. I wonder if having 2 versions on your machine causes problems? Just a thought.

.47 doesn't install like other programs, it doesn't go into the program folder and make desktop icons etc, you just unzip it to your desktop the when you click on the Inkscape.exe file it open the program.

I downloaded the latest build last night and I did just do a word with out any problems, when you downloaded Inkscape did you let it finish the download it take about 4 mins?

I have the last 2 versions in files on my desktop so they are not actually installed (just in case) May be 'no union' is one of the bugs? Everyone seems to have different problem

    Two versions of what Erika?

I have .46 and .47 when I update .47 I always overwrite the files with the new ones.

It has to be something you are doing wrong as the path union works it isn't a bug.

    Have you got .46 INSTALLED?

I suggest you get rid of .46 from the desk top download it again and install it properly. Then we can deal with the .47 problem

    For now forget .47.

I think .46 should be installed like a regular program in your program folder with only a shortcut on your desktop, assuming you have short cuts to programs on your desktop.

If .46 is working OK. Delete the current folder with .47 in it and then download again, make sure the download is finished before leaving the site.

Then all you have to do is follow these instructions

I downloaded and unzipped the file to my desktop. This is of course a personal choice but until the stable version is released I’m leaving it on the desktop.

Right click on the zipped file and choose IZarc to unzip or double click and let you unzip program deal with it NB: Winzip will not unzip these files.
    Double click on the folder
    Double click the Inkscape folder
Then double click on Inkscape.exe (this doesn’t install the program it opens it)

To save all the double clicking on folders I have right clicked on the Inkscape.exe file and created a shortcut on my desktop then moved it to the quick launch bar again a personal thing, but if I had two Inkscape icons on my desktop I would probably click on the wrong one to open the program and I don't have short cuts on my desktop anyway, I use quick launch instead.

Vista doesn't matter it should still work.

If you have done as I suggested and not missed anything out it should work, assuming you are still having problems with the weld.

Can you tell us exactly how what you did and what font etc? Maybe their is a problem there.

I've just installed Inkscape 47, using Lucilles suggestions and I use Vista and it welds just fine.

I also have both versions on my desktop, but to save confusion I right clicked the new one and renamed it Inkscape 0.47.
