Strange things happening with my fonts

I've downloaded some fonts, unzipped them and put them in my font folder.
I have used a couple of them in designs (by temporarily installing them).

Now when I open them, I'm getting a blank page (screenshot attached.)

I have gone to other sites to download the files - thinking they might be
corrupt files, but the same thing is happening.

I will download, unzip them and check to make sure they are there and
they are. Then when I go to use them, they are just a blank page and
I can't temporarily install them.

I hope someone may have had this occur and can help me get to the bottom
of it.

I have used two different fonts for my screenshot - One showing you what
the files look like after I open them - the other is a sample of what the
page lookes like when they disappear.

No - if you look at the second picture (90 stars) - that is what comes up - a blank page.

I can download the font, uzip it, check it and it is a page with a picture of all the font dingbats. When I go to use it or temporarily install it, a blank page
shows up and the font cannot be found.

I have had this happen over the last three days. I have tried downloading
the same fonts from different sites, and the same thing is happening. Makes
me think it is not an issue in the files.

Hello,

I just found the font and downloaded it and it's showing up for me if I open a document in Word and choose that font.

It also shows up fine if I click on the .ttf file.

I dowloaded it and some other fonts and they opened fine for me too!

When I went to use them, they disappeared. I would open them and the page that displays the dingbats in the file were blank.

I tried downloading them from three different sites - I would check them when I unzipped them and the files displayed the dings but when I would go to use them, they are not there!!!!

I've had this happen and I've no idea why, I am sure it was a PICNIC moment and I had been shunting fonts around in folders and deleting some fonts I had dubled up on, but can't see how that would cause a problem.

My solution I went online and downloaded the missing fonts again and now if I HAVE to do an install to use a font, I'm very careful about moving them from the Windows font folder to my folder containing fonts not installed, I don't use any program moving functions and it hasn't happen again, touch wood

Well Lucille it is comforting knowing someone else has had this happen.
No such luck in the touch wood department. I'm on day four of it continuing to happen.
I have scanned my computer for viruses, googled the problem and deleted and
redownloaded the fonts to no avail.
I've used these fonts in designs and am at a loss as to where they are disappearing and why.
I don't use any type of font program. I download them, unzip them and put them in different font catagory files.

The only thing I have done (different lately) is I zipped all my font catagory files together. I do open this zipped catagories file and then drop the unzipped font into the corresponding file.

I know there has to be an answer somewhere. My problem just isn't going away!!!!!!!

Do you think this could be the source of your problem? I know that I have 'opened' zipped files to view files without unzipping them & then have tried to open them with another program (I think it was photoshop) & they wouldn't open. I had to do a full unzip for it to work.

I hope you get sorted out it must be really frustrating.

I've have one particular font go haywire on me, Winter Wonderland. I always use it in Publisher ( I have three icons I particularly use) but they just wouldn't come up at all, in fact only half the fonts worked. The only way I could use all of them was to use it PSP, which is fine but annoying to say the least. The font is held in my Dingbat folder and I use FontViewer to temporarily install when I want to use it. Have tried to install it in my Windows/Fonts folder to see if it works properly from there but no difference. It worked perfectly when I first used it but no difference to computer since then. Deleted it and downloaded it again but no difference there either. What the problem is I have no idea.

Have you fully extracted it not just double clicked it and viewed it before fully unzipping. Try unzipping and saving it to the desktop so you see the font file then copy to your windows fonts folder.

Linda what you are describing is very similar to what I was doing, dump the zipped files and try a Google search for this problem if you have it and I've had it there must be a lot more people out there that have had it as well. I used the Search option in windows to find the affected fonts and deleted them from there, before downloading them again, did you do that?

I now rely on my font manager as I've found if I open that first 99% the fonts I have not in zipped folders are temporarily installed I don't have to do anything.

This was a thought I had, but not being an expert it could be totally round the twist. It seemed to me that after I moved the fonts my PC was still looking for them in their original folder and wasn't picking them up in the new one. I don't know if fonts leave some kind of footprint in the Registry and that was part of the problem.

I have done a Google search with no luck. I have posted the problem on some font forums but no answers yet.

I was wondering if the zipped catagories was my problem. I had so many different folders on my laptop, I thought that would be the thing to do.

I'm not familair with using a font manager yet. Guess it is time to learn.

Something I have been noticing - when I drop the unzipped font in the folder,
the blue lit up "T" is still there. However, I check the folder I dropped it in and it is there - even though the "T" is lit-up. It disappears after I've opened it to temporarily install.

I am going to try your suggestions and the other suggestions.

I know these issues can be so frustrating but are part of the process of
mastering the computer. We continue to learn through the sheer determination of figuring something out.
