    Quick and crafty

May's issue of 'Quick and Crafty' will be the last and existing subscribers will be transferred over to 'Crafts Beautiful'. News comes at the same time two new magazines (a sewing one and a beading one) are launched by the same company 'though it wasn't strictly a paper craft magazine the majority of features were aimed at paper crafter's'. Is paper crafting suddenly becoming less popular? Or are there currently too many paper craft magazines?

Oh boy, this does start to get confusing doesn't it...I'm sure this was originally "Quick & Easy Cross Stitch" that then combined with another mag but there hasn't been much in the way of cross stitch in there for some time now it is to be replaced by two new mags??? I suppose there is some logic in there somewhere

personally think there are too many that are all very similar in content and style - to the point I have bought the same magazine twice by accident thinking it was a different publication. I used to be in to dolls houses and miniatures and the same thing happened with that - at one time it was "everywhere" but now just the quality publications survive

Maybe they are seeing a gap in the market for sewing and beading magazines? Although any time I bought an issue of crafts beautiful it had sewing, etc in it along with the papercrafts.

I used to buy a lot of cardmaking magazines, but don't buy any now (neither do I buy scrapping ones) as I would rather get something like the ones they have in the US.

I don't buy any of the card magazines any more (they didn't seem to contain any new ideas or things to my taste) so I've never seen Quick and Crafty. I sometimes think Scrapbook Magazine is on it's last legs (lots of empty space). I think I only buy it to keep me going until the next issue of Scrapbook Inspirations.

Which american magazines would you recommend simplyme?

The market can only sustain a limited number of specialist magazines, so I expect its just that there are too many papercraft magazines around. I'm amazed that yet another beading one is being launched! I have never subscribed to a craft magazine, as this is not the first time one has folded and transferred its subscribers to a magazine they might not even want. I was on the design team for Scrapbook Magic and therefore on a free subscription, but would have been cross if I had paid for a subscription as these were all transferred to Crafts Beautiful when Scrapbook Magic folded after only a year. Crafts Beautiful is a general crafts magazine rather than one specifically for scrapbooking, so hardly an acceptable substitute. I wonder if they will offer subscribers a refund on their subscriptions?

I don't understand the CB angle either because to me Crafts Beautiful mag has a bit of everything in sewing, beading, papercrafts etc. I used to get it all the time but it went so downhill I stopped buying it. If the publisher put the resources in to making one really really good mag that covered lots of things instead of many that cover one then I'm sure they'd get the same readership (I'd defo go back to buying it). I think they're relying on people buying every mag they offer and I can't see that happening long term.
I miss having a good crafty mag - haven't bought one in ages because for the money (most of them are like £3.99) they're just too dissapointing.

One of the reasons I don't subscribe to mags any more is because of their habit of discontinuing and transferring your remaining subscription to another mag. On two occasions my sub was transferred to a mag that I was already subbing to and I certainly didn't get the number of additional copies that I should have...I hate to be diddled
