Anna I totally agree with everyone else and you DH is brilliant.

scrapbook albums most common sizes are 6 x 6inches, 8x 8 inches and 12x12inches so when you go looking today be careful which one you pick.

WH Smiths, if you have one of the trial shops has a good scrapbooking department at the moment and theirs are quite reasonable most of the time the 12 x 12 start at about £12 which is brilliant.

oh and remember crafters don't make mistakes they have 'happy accidents'

8.5x11 was the old traditional size for scrapbooks, but square books have mostly overtaken them, I'm guessing that's what you've picked up, or maybe an A4 one (whcih is the UK's equivelent).
Don't worry, just put it on a shelf for a later project and treat yourself to a lovely 12x12 album.

Back from shopping...just bought a 12x12 in Boots for £4.99 in the sale...thanks to the wonderful person who told me about them....also saw them in the WHSmith sale for £5.99 too

Take a photo of your lovely LO before you put it in the album, then I am sure someone can talk you through getting it into the gallery!
