    [QUOTE=kitty falol]Hi everybody

    However I was in a scrapbooking shop a few days ago and the owner of the shop was having a little chat with someone who was obviously a 'regular' customer. When she left, the shop owner turned to her assistant and said, "You know, she must spend every spare penny in this shop. We totalled up the other day, just how much she's spent in here and you could have bought a new car with the money.... Not second hand, brand new".

    Have to say that as a shop owner I may occasionally think things but thinking is one thing....saying is another......and in front of a customer too

    THAT WAS A QUOTE ABOVE BUT I THINK I LOST MY BRACKETS

    I went to my first scrapbook shop the other day and really enjoyed looking at stuff IRL, however I came away thinking that all this pre made stash, especially quotes, made the whole thing very sanitised and commercialised and it just didn't feel right to buy a lot of the stuff. I still spent over £100 but it was on basics- paper, glue, inks, acrylics, stamp pads etc. My favourite LO is all cardstock, stamped title, and cheap flowers from Poundland, the whole LO must be around the £1 mark

    With a few exceptions for 'super special pages' such as the birth announcements and christenings, that's my plan for the books I want to do too

    Making up 2 books at the same time for my grand-daughters could get very expensive if I let it, but I have invested in loads of stamps, Sizzix and QK for my cardmaking.... so I plan to utilise those as much as possible for my scrapping too. I also have a mountain of lovely card and paper -- I just wish I could mix and match them to my satisfaction But having received a wonderful mixed parcel from the Marketplace yesterday, I sat and played with those and think I now have a starting point if I can just find the right pictures on my PC/Camera Memory Cards

    That's not to say I haven't got any of the other items in my stash though... they'll just be used on an 'once in a blue moon' basis

    I've been thinking about this lately and I'm going on a complete spending ban, apart from adhesive, for the next few months so I use up things I already have. There, I've said it now, I'm going to have to stick to it

    Polymer clay(Fimo etc) can be very cost effective for making your own embellishments. If you've got old Fimo which has gone a bit hard, try sitting on it for a bit, in it's packet, as your body temperature will warm it up just enough :lol

    My top tip is - go to America for your holidays and stock up on your stash there . I've just come back from Florida with a case full of goodies all at half the UK price.

    Course, the air fair may bring the savings down a bit......

    Lol, I've just come back from America and it's the photos from my trip there that I want to make into my first scrapbook.

    Mind you, I did discover the craft section in Walmart and bought them out of rubber stamps and embossing powders .... just wish I'd had a bit more forethought.

    Mmmmm, how to get hubby to agree to a Christmas Florida trip.....

    Charity shops are the best. I've got loads of threads, buttons, interesting buckles for using with ribbons, charms off belts, all sorts. Perhaps not acid free but if that's not a worry then you can get some real bargains for less than 50p!
