papering around the handles of a paint tin

    I know, I know!

There are 150 threads somewhere on here telling me how to do this, and I should be abe to find them but I can't Blame it on the stonking headache I've got if you like!

I've got 2 biggies to make for teachers for xmas, and am really excited after doing my first, a smaller one, the other day. BUT I don't know how to go around the handles neatly, and I bet someone has been clever enough to work out a technique for this

Anyone point me in the right direction please?

    Hi Bernie
What kind of tin is it?
Most handles can come off completely if you wedge a blunt knife underneath
    to open up the fastenings.
Its the only way you will get a perfect finish
Then put the handles back on and close with pliers

oops sorry wrong info I thought you meant a lunctin very sorry

Dawn, don't worry!! Thanks anyway!! I gave up on doing lunch tins and did a 500cl tin and love it, so want to do some 1l & 2.5l ones, but the bigger ones have handles, and I want it to look nice, not all crumpled and yucky!! Thought there must be some skilful way to do this!

Katie (my 8 year old), did this at a kids crop recently - I don't know if there is a better 'adults' way, but they cut out a square from the top to below the handle joint and then pasted a small piece over the hole above the handle. then they put ribbon around the top edge which covered up the pasted bit anyway.
I think it needs a photo to explain, I'll find her tin and take a pic

Bev! You star! That's a much easier way of doing it! Am intending to put on loads of ribbons anyway, so it will be fine that way!!

Thank you (again!! - 2 probs in one day sorted!)
