    quickutz question

This may seem a silly question but when you get a brand new quickutz die and you get ready to cut you put the foam on and cut once do you pull all the foam off it then leaves the die. They did that on QVC. I haven't pulled mine off but been using it since last Christmas ok.Which is right /wrong ? I use the sizzex converter in my sizzex machine does that make it any different.

It's up to you. Pulling it off is supposed to increase te efficiency of cutting. But all it did to mine wasmake the tiny bits of paper stick to teh insides (eg the circle in the middle of 'o's. It was a great faff having to poke it out with a ruler each time.

.....unless you leave the foam in the middle of the 'o' as well!
Have to say I find my dies cut much better with the extra foam REMOVED- and I use mine A LOT!!!

I did!! And the letters got stuck! Although I do think my QK handtool isn'tthe best. I have problems with about 50% of my dies. I put the foam back and none of them have stuck since!

I stick the foam on the cutting side the punch once with it. Then you can see what the shape is and where the cutting parts are. They if you peel off any 'outer' parts of foam - LEAVING any foam inside parts ie. middle of O and A and windows on cars etc. This helps it to cut and doesn't make the parts stick to the die!!

Honest! That's what I did!!! Whe I peeled off the spare foam from the outside it must have left a sticky residue which ended up on the brass plate.

Elin - I had exactly the same problem - had to get the die cuts out of the quickutz with ruler - have now gone back to leaving all the foam on and they cut no problem - won't be changing it with my new one either - I contacted Quickutz and they said it needed new plates !! It doesn't - it just cuts better with the foam on.

You're not going to like this one bit !!

    Hi Elin

You have to contact Quickutz direct to say that the tool needs new plates - you send it at your cost to America - they repair it - you pay for it - not sure who pays for it to come back. I wasn't happy with this - my main concern being that what happens at customs etc - after all - they may stop your package and it is used handtool not new - I emailed them back to say that I didn't think this was good enough as they sell the handtool in this country they should be able to get it repaired here as well

You wouldn't send your Dyson back to India to get repaired would you - so why have to send it to America - anyway, mine works fine with the foams on complete - Quickutz are still recommending you take the excess off even with all the emails they receive about the damage to the plates.

I didn't think much to their customer services - not a patch on Ellison/Sizzix but nowhere near as bad as Zipemate.

If you do contact them - don't expect a quick response

    Hope all this helps,

I have left the foam on all my QK dies. There does not seem to be a problem and they cut really well (on a sidekick!). The dilemma I had was - what is the little see through sticker for?

that's for if you have problems with cutting that particular die you put the plastic on the flat side - it's called a shim. It's supposed to increase teh thickness a fraction which will help it cut better.
