No, he was in the 1930’s.
He was also mayor of Detroit, and was partners with Henry Ford. We visited the family and they had lots of fascinating stories and memorabilia. We are friends with his great grandson and meet up every now and then

I'm enjoying all these stories, even though I'm not doing any active research. However, the 1921 Scotland census has now been published, so that might help fill in some gaps.

That’s amazing Alison, I am apparently connected to James Young Simpson who first used chloroform and some Scottish lord in the Jacobite rebellion times and good old Vlad the Impaler but I cannot find any evidence to back up any of them!

Thanks Margo, I wonder which site the Scottish census is on? Mind you I don’t know if I had any direct family in Scotland in 1921.

Hilary, it's available on Scotland's People, but possibly also others (I haven't looked elsewhere).

    It's all very interesting
My Nana said we are related to Percy Bish (SP?) Shelley but I haven't got back that far (I think that means also Mary Shelley who wrote Frankenstein
I did find online information about a court case I think it was my Great Grandmother's brother who tried to burn down his parents' flat after a row with his mother?? It went to court at the Old Bailey

Does anyone have any type of family record sheet they've found useful or any sheets to record what they've checked eg which census etc?
I've found some but they seem to be more for American Family History

    I’ve bought this book

You can record 7/8 generations but just parents, no siblings. Then then are charts for you to record your key information and the sources of that information.
I’m going to do it in pencil and see how it goes. It’s only £6.99 and I think it will be useful having the main info in one place
    Here’s what’s inside…

I wish I was organised enough to do that when researching. My brain just can’t handle it for long, I start off with good intentions but it just never lasts. My daughter has just been diagnosed with ADHD and keeps saying”I wonder where that came from!” Same with scrapping, if I try to doodle a border you can see the exact moment when my concentration drifts away- stitches get longer, cutting out gets sloppy!
