    Foil Quill

    Anyone got one?
I've treated myself. Keep looking at it in the box.
Any hints or tips greatly appreciated.
Noted you had one Neries, any problems/issues?

I've got one but I use it with a different machine so can't show my foiling on here and the settings could be different. Have a look at Youtube
    for videos.

I love it. No problems with the Foil Quill working. My mistakes/problems have been software related or not getting the tape on the mat in quite the right place. If the Quill goes over the tape it does not foil. The tape in the kit is 1/2inch washi tape but soon runs out. I bought 3 roll pack 1/4inch wide 3 metres on each from Poundland and prefer the narrower tape. Both can be reused until it no longer sticks. I also use an old cutting mat and tape the card down if needed. Too stick and it's hard to get off the mat especially if I have used a fill.

No way would I use the USB in my Cameo so use a 16,000 mAh power bank. You can also use a USB mains plug adapter or mobile phone charger. Let it heat up for 5 mins and use the sketch settings. So that the foil does not lose it's shine I keep the speed low around 2 to 4, pressure 2. If you want to fill easily and quickly download the latest Studio for the sketch fill. I use the spiral, spacing 5 or 10 then click release effects.

Any hot foil is suitable, the foil I use is for the GoPress & Foil that goes through a die cutter. It is only 125mm (5") wide with 5 metres (nearly 5 1/2 yds) on a roll costing £2.99. I recently tried gold 175mm wide (7") from a Facebook selling group that worked, which is 80p a metre.

Using the Foil Quill has me using my Cameo more than I have done in the past. It is great for personalising cards and items. So get yours out of the box and play.

I have one and can only echo everything that Neries says. I love it and have used it for both larger projects and small. I used it yesterday to make some teeny tiny stickers to use in my planner. It is a bit of a learning curve and you will make a few mistakes, especially with placing the foil and sticking it down. What I have done now is use an old mat and put a piece of 12x12 cardstock on it. I have marked the centre of this with an A4 shape and also another rectangle so I know where to stick my foil and that has helped. I use Scotch removable tape in the blue box to stick my foil down, it costs about £2.99 for a 19mm x 33m roll on the big river site. You can reuse it several times and it works for me. If you have a look at the Silhouette School blog, there are a few useful hints and tips, but the best thing is to just play for a bit.

I bought the set of three tips and initially thought I wouldn't need all of them, but now I am glad I did as some designs are better with the finer tip and other the broader one. One thing I did was foil the same simple design using all three tips so I could keep them and decide which tip to use with each design. Enjoy your Foil Quill, It's a great tool.

I've been following this thread with great interest. I bought the foil quill to use with my cameo very recently but I haven't even unboxed it yet as I just don't have the time to devote to having a good go at it at the moment. I'm hoping to be able to do that next week but in the meantime I'm gleaning information on how to get the best out of it and really looking forward to having a go.

Thank you so much for your hints and tips. Hopefully I'll get it out soon and have a go.
Was worried I'd made a mistake, so panicked a bit x

I'm not a 100% sure but I think it is in the basic software now but you will probably need the latest release which is 4.2.471
