Thanks Denise, will have a think.
I don’t remember whitsuntide being an important part of life at all.
I do remember having silly hats with elastic as a child to go to church ! And I remember mum making a lot of my clothes, with crimplene
    Alison

Lol..I remember crimpolene too Alison. My Mum made me a dress in bottle green with a white Peter Pan collar to wear to her cousins wedding. I’ll have to see if I can find it for All out Yesteryears..I love that prompt Denise. A real excuse to dig out all out old photos!
    Really clever prompts. Thank you!
I remember May Day more that Whitsuntide..dancing around the Maypole on the village Green seemed to feature. I remember always being told it was ‘ Whitsun week’ as my parents closed their businesses down for that week and we always went on holiday..now it’s just ‘half term’.

    Ooo sounds good Denise
I bought new clothes yesterday when Iím up Iíll put them on and take a photo but they are not Sunday clothes though as they are trousers and I donít wear trousers to church but lots of people do nowadays
I also have photos of my two children dancing round the maypole in the Whitsun fete when they were 5 and 6 wearing their new clothes made especially for the event Iíll post them when Iím up too as only got them on the computer not my phone

    Thank for the prompts Denise.
I remember Whitsuntide. We all had new clothes, which my
Gran made for us. We used to go to each house in the street to show
them off, and they would give us a halfpenny or penny each.
Then we would go on the Whit Walk from church to a park. Walking behind
the vicar, a brass band and lots of men carrying flags and banners.
We would stand in the park and sing hymns at the tops of our voices.
After , we marched back to the church where they would crown the
May Queen. One year I was an attendant to the Queen
Then we all had something to eat in the church or as a picnic outside.
I have a photo some where of my youngest DD when she was
School May Queen. I will find it, and one of the school Maypole.

Yes I can see you have had it cut Denise., and the lovely China., but can’t quite see the pattern on it.
I see the reed ceiling. Interesting, but don’t you get creepy crawlers in it ?
