Deleting Fonts on a Mac
Can anyone tell me which fonts it's safe to delete? I believe that some are crucial to both the programme and the operating system but I don't know which ones. I'm fed up of scrolling through an excessive number of fonts some of which I'll never use. And while I'm on the subject of fonts, which versions should I be downloading when I acquire new ones - otf or ttf? Any help offered will be gratefully received.

No idea about deleting fonts on a Mac but have you looked what options for deleting are offered in your Font Book, for example is there a restore defaults option if you delete something you shouldn't or can you do a back up ?
Re oft or ttf, otf fonts are more versatile as they usually have more features than ttf such as glyphs or alternative characters.

Thank you Shirley Anne, I'll explore Font Book later and thanks for the useful info re otf. I usually just download ttf but I'll stop doing that now.

Never ever delete a font labelled with a O = that stands for needed for the operating system.
Usually ok to delete and True Type font.
It may help you to buy a Font manager software program.

If you highlight and right click a font, in your font book, you have the option to disable the font as well as an option to delete it. Disable the font doesn't remove it. Disable the font you want to delete first and see what happens, you can always enable it if its needed.

Thank you Petrina and Cariad, I don't check here as often as I used to, hence the delay in responding, in fact I haven't been doing much crafting, my motivation for everything seems to have dwindled. I don't think any of my fonts have an O beside them and I'm fed up of fonts that I've purchased that don't work, Kayleigh and Olivia being two of them. Guess I must have done something wrong but when I look at the installation they look fine yet when used they just produce some basic text setting. Perhaps I should delete them and reinstall (if I still have the original download file).
