It's not the frame you have a problem with it's the fancy corner. Andi has used a file with an uneven edge

    Hi
I have the rectangle frame as per picture and I want attach a corner shape in each inside corner of the rectangle.

Sounds simple when your typing it but grrrrrrr

I have attached a picture of the elements and I found a better picture of an example, but in principle like the snowflake one

    Hope this helps
    Nic

Andi it's the corners in the first post but as they have straight edges I can't see how Nic can get the effect she wants

Okay, understand the probs now. I have tried to make a work round for you but it won't quite give you the example you have posted. If you treat it a bit like you would stencil letters and make little tabs (weld them to the corners) and then position the corners slightly offset so the tabs overlap the frame and then weld you would get my example. Does that help at all?

Of course, I wasn't thinking. If you don't make the frame a compound path to begin with but make the corner a compound path, position it into the corner of the inner frame and subtract, you get this, is this any better?? Then select the whole thing and make it a compound path. I am getting old, the memory isn't so good Of course, you would have all four corners to subtract at once.

It's because the edges on the file are straight.

Doreen, sorry it might be me.... I thought she wanted it to look like the one she has uploaded in post #17. It's never easy to see what's in someone else's mind!! Plus we don't always have the exact files unless they have come from here. That frame has more cutouts than the one she is using, so will look different.

Don't apologise Andi. I think if it was filled with colour Nic's would probably look much the same as the one in post 17 as you's would too. But from the other's that have been posted I thought she only wanted part of it welded to the frame which I can't see is possible with something that has straight edges

    Hi
I realise it is clear as mud to you ladies what I am trying to achieve so many thanks for bearing with me. I want the edges attached but not the shaped bit so when it is cut out the shaped scalloped bit etc is suspended / free

Not sure if this would work with your corner but you could try releasing the compound path of the corner, make a small offset of the inside pieces, this gives an uneven edge then weld them to the Frame

The only way I can see for you to have it partly floating is like the screenshot below because it has to be welded to the frameScreenshot_5.png. Looks like Shirley and I have posted together
